This initiative will continue transforming an important historic space into a vibrant centre for music, culture and tourism, whilst safeguarding the rich legacy and traditions that form part of Malta’s identity

The Newly Transformed Buġibba Square is Officially Open! 🌟✨

Yesterday we celebrated the transformation of Buġibba’s core, delivered through a joint collaboration between the Malta Tourism Authority and Infrastructure Malta.

The project delivers a beautiful new look for the square and promenade, alongside a major upgrade to all underground utilities.

This dynamic, open space is officially back in the hands of the community, residents, and tourists to enjoy right by the coast.

🇬🇧 The Malta Tourism Authority is nearing completion of the final phase of the regeneration project around St Paul’s Basilica, including the restoration of the historic Sacro Monte and the surrounding piazza. Additional initiatives include funding and restoring the Basilica’s historic belfry, as well as supporting the repaving of key streets and alleys in collaboration with the Local Council and Infrastructure Malta, with the aim of enhancing the visitor experience in Rabat’s historic centre. ⛪️🔔✨

🇲🇹 Malta has successfully concluded the UN Tourism Commission for Europe programme, hosting high-level discussions on the future of global tourism together with ministers, tourism leaders, academics and international stakeholders from across Europe 🌍

The final conference, titled “Driving tourism towards the future we want: a Dialogue on policies to balance growth, people and planet”, focused on sustainability, climate resilience, innovation and resident wellbeing which are key themes shaping the future of tourism worldwide.

Over the past days, Malta once again strengthened its position as an active contributor towards international tourism dialogue, sustainability and forward-looking tourism policy.

🇲🇹 Malta is proudly hosting the 72nd Meeting of the UN Tourism Commission for Europe, bringing together more than 33 countries and around 150 delegates for high-level discussions on the future of tourism across Europe.

Held in our islands, this prestigious meeting focuses on key themes including sustainability, climate resilience, digitalisation and balancing tourism growth with resident wellbeing. 🌍

The meeting featured addresses by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Dr Ian Borg, UN Tourism Secretary-General H.E. Ms Shaikha Al Nuwais, and Malta Tourism Authority CEO Mr Carlo Micallef.

A major leap for Malta was also achieved during the meeting, as the Malta Tourism Observatory was officially accepted into UN Tourism’s prestigious International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories (INSTO) — placing Malta alongside leading sustainable tourism observatories worldwide. ♻️

Malta continues strengthening its position as an active contributor towards a more sustainable, resilient and forward-looking global tourism sector.
