Step back in time and experience history through a powerful visual journey.
The Australian War Memorial’s ‘A Camera on Gallipoli’ exhibition offers a rare opportunity to explore the photographs of surgeon Sir Charles Ryan, a senior medical officer in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF).
These striking images take us beyond the heroic headlines of the Gallipoli Campaign, revealing the harsh reality of war — the barren landscape, exhausted troops in trenches, squalid dugouts, and the grim duty of burying the fallen. Through Ryan’s lens, we witness the true spirit of Anzac: mateship, resilience, and unwavering endurance.
The exhibition also connects this pivotal moment in history to Malta through a series of downloadable “ANZAC Experience in Malta” self-guided tours. Discover the locations across Malta where wounded Anzacs were treated, entertained, and laid to rest.
While visiting, take the opportunity to learn about Torri Mamo, a fortified country residence built in 1657 by the Mamo family to defend against pirate invasions from nearby St Thomas Bay.
This exhibition is proudly presented through a collaboration between Din l-Art Ħelwa and the Australian High Commission Malta, and is sponsored by Virtu Ferries.
📍 Torri Mamo is accessible by bus — check Malta Public Transport for routes and schedules.
📞 For the latest opening hours, it is strongly recommended to call 2122 5952 / 2122 0358 before your visit.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to connect with history where it happened
