Fl-1914, qrib iż-Żebbiegħ ġiet identifikata blokka wieqfa tal-ġebel, li saret magħrufa bħala l-menhir ta’ Skorba. Għexieren ta’ snin wara, fl-1937, il-Kaptan C.G. Zammit, dak iż-żmien Kuratur tal-Arkeoloġija, innota frammenti tal-fuħħar preistoriċi mxerrdin fil-qrib. Intrigat, hu ħaffer trinka u kixef blokka tal-ġebel kwadra u mnaqxxa. 🇬🇧 The discovery of Skorba was heavily influenced by the significance of a single stone.

In 1914, an upright block of stone was identified near Żebbiegħ, becoming known as the menhir of Skorba. Decades later, in 1937, Captain C.G. Zammit, then Curator of Archaeology, noticed prehistoric pottery fragments scattered nearby. Intrigued, he conducted a trial trench and uncovered a square, pitted stone block. This find strongly indicated the presence of a prehistoric structure, leading to the excavation of Skorba later on.

🇬🇧 During his excavation of Skorba between 1961 and 1963, David H. Trump uncovered a wall dating to the Għar Dalam phase (c. 6th millennium BC). This makes it one of the oldest known structures on the Maltese Islands, of which he uncovered 11 m. Later excavations at the site showed that the wall extended slightly further.
