On Wednesday 22 November 2023, a half-day stakeholder event focusing on the implementation of the European Union's Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Regulation was organised by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Health and Food Safety and the Heads of HTA Agencies Group (HAG), together with national HTA agencies.

The event has brought together key stakeholders from Spain, Italy, Malta and Portugal, including national HTA administrators and representatives from national stakeholders such as patient associations, health professionals, scientific societies, industry representatives, national decision-makers and regional health authorities.

At the event in Seville, the European Commission provided an overview of the new EU HTA Regulation. This was followed by panel discussions, featuring local speakers who will discuss key topics related to the implementation of the regulation. The event was held in English and online interpretation provided in Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.

The panels has covered the following topics:
• Understanding key elements of the EU HTA Regulation
• Challenges and opportunities in the implementation process
• Involving stakeholders in EU HTA implementation
• The panel discussion also included time for Q&A and audience participation, with the opportunity to engage in lively and constructive discussions..

The Directorate for Pharmaceutical Affairs has participated both in the event and also in the panel discussion. National stakeholders representing the Ministry for Health, health care professionals, patients and industry attended either onsite or online to this event.

This event is part of a series of regional information events to be organised in 2023 and 2024 across the EU by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Health and Food Safety and the Heads of HTA Agencies Group (HAG), together with national HTA agencies.
