🔬🧠✨ Inspiring Young Minds at the Primary Science Fair 2026! ✨🧠🔬

The Nursing and Midwifery Services Directorate was proud to contribute to the Primary Science Fair 2026, organised by the Directorate for STEM & VET Programmes.

The Primary Science Fair 2026 was a vibrant showcase of curiosity and STEM learning, with engaging activities and innovative stands for all attendees. The daily mental health and wellbeing stand, supported by community nursing and allied health professionals, encouraged students to explore healthy coping strategies through interactive ‘Mental Health toolbox’.

At the creating products stand, children experienced hands-on learning and left proudly wearing a plaster slab applied by a dedicated team of orthopaedic experts: charge nurse, paediatric orthopaedic surgeon, nursing and allied health professionals.

The demonstration of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation offered a fascinating glimpse into the science of magnetism, while the heartbeat stand, featured a range of heart-related exhibits. These stands were staffed by charge nurses, charge midwives, students, emergency responders and allied health.

Practice nurses and allied health at the clean hands workshop utilised a UV light box and petri dishes for interaction with the students.

Each stand contributed to a memorable day of discovery, inspiring young minds to embrace science in everyday life.

🚨 Case Study Session Series – Presentation No. 2 - Recognising Deterioration in Real Time 🚨

The Rapid Response Nurses at
Mater Dei Hospital are pleased to share that
Presentation No. 2 in the Case Study Session Series will now be available to all nursing staff at Mater Dei Hospital.
This session builds on a real anonymised case, focusing on:
🔹 Early recognition of patient deterioration
🔹 Escalation and decision-making
🔹 Identifying clinical trends
🔹 Applying real-time judgement in the ward setting
💬 Designed as an interactive, case-based discussion, this session supports shared learning and practical application in everyday clinical practice.
⚠️ Kindly note: This is a repeat session of the presentations delivered on 10th and 24th May for Charge Nurses. Those who previously attended are welcome to join again, although the content will remain the same.

Case Study Session Series | Case #2: Detecting Deterioration in Real-Time

At Mater Dei Hospital, the Rapid Response Team is leading the way in practice development.

The Rapid Response Team is a specialised clinical team trained to recognise and respond to patients whose condition is deteriorating, stepping in early before things become critical. Keeping that skill sharp across the hospital takes consistent, focused work, and that is exactly what this series is about.

Building on the first case in the series, Case #2, has brought ward leaders together over four sessions to work through real clinical scenarios. The aim is straightforward: to build the judgement and confidence needed to act at the earliest signs that a patient needs help. Ward leaders who attended have already asked for more sessions.

With the Charge Nurse sessions now complete, the series opens to all Senior Nurses and Staff Nurses across the hospital. The earlier deterioration is recognised, wherever the patient is, the better the outcome.

Ir-'Rapid Response Team' huwa tim kliniku speċjalizzat imħarreġ biex jagħraf u jirrispondi għal pazjenti li l-kundizzjoni tagħhom tkun qed tiddeterjora u jkun involut minn kmieni, qabel mas-sitwazzjoni ssir kritika.

Li tinżamm dik il-ħila f'livell għoli madwar l-isptar kollu titlob xogħol konsistenti u ffukat, u dan hu eżattament dak li qed toffri din is-serje.

Wara l-ewwel każ li ġie ndirizzat fis-serje, it-tieni eżempju, ġabar flimkien il-kapijiet tas-swali, ġewwa l-Isptar Mater Dei, f'erba' sessjonijiet biex jaħdmu fuq xenarji kliniċi reali. L-għan huwa sempliċi: li jinbena l-ġudizzju u l-fiduċja meħtieġa biex dak li jkun jaġixxi fl-ewwel sinjali li pazjent ikun jeħtieġ l-għajnuna.
