The origins of MRDC lie in the Road Construction Unit of Male’ Municipality which was subsequently renamed the Road Construction Section of Male’ Municipality (RCSMM). MRDC was formed with the aim to take over responsibilities held by RCSMM and hence, the assets were transferred amicably to MRDC. The development of roads in Maldives began in 1984 and the construction of all roads in Male’, the capital city was completed on 19thSeptember 2002 under the Road Development Project of Male’ which was funded by the Danish Government. Principal activities of the Corporation include construction of roads, trading of building bricks, contracting activities and maintenance work of roads. MRDC strives to offer quality products, timely delivery and competitive pricing. The Corporation has continued its history of diversifying and developing its business activities. One of the major achievements includes setting up of a factory in Thilafushi Island and Hdh. The factory produces well-compressed masonry and pre-casted concrete. The machine pressed masonry bricks are of high quality and manufactured in different sizes. Paving blocks are produced with isolative layers to enhance its aesthetics. They are produced in varying colors, sizes and designs.
