IMMIGRATION ARRESTS 18 ETHIOPIANS ,ONE MALAWIAN,IMPOUNDS MOTOR VEHICLE FOR CONTRAVENING IMMIGRATION LAWS
Lack of patriotism to mother remains a challenge to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services, the development comes in following the arrest of 18 Ethiopians by Immigration officers from Regional Immigration Office North for suspecting them to have entered in the country illegally including one Malawian who was driving a vehicle which was used to ferry the suspected immigrants on Monday, 14 November,2022.
The 18 immigrants were arrested at Phwezi Immigration roadblock in Rumphi District whilst hiding inside a truck van bearing registration number CA 8429 which was driven by Mr Perrie Chintika aged 40,a holder of Malawian passport number MWA029882 from Kasungu district
The truck which have been impounded was carrying soap and toilet papers
The 18 arrested immigrants are expected to answer the offence of illegal entry contrary to section 21(1) of the Malawi Immigration Act, while the driver is likely to be charged with aiding and abetting of illegal immigrants into Malawi contrary to section 36 of the Malawi Immigration Act.
Currently the 18 Ethiopians and the driver are being kept at Rumphi prison awaiting legal action.
Aiding and abetting of illegal migrants have alot of impacts to Malawi which include but not limited to & impacts
In this regard, we are appealing to the general public to desist from the practice which has serious consequences to our national security and social economic development of the country

OBLIGATIONS OF OUR CUSTOMERS AT THE PORT OF ENTRY
All foreign nationals visiting Malawi should always avoid travelling using damaged passports.
With rising cases of , those travelling with minors [With different surnames than the accompanying adult] are advised advised to carry all relevant documents proving relationship or as a legal guardian
Once in Malawi, not to engage in any employment or bussiness activity before your permit is approved.

One of the resident permit is Permanent Residence Permit [P.RP]
Illegal and is a serious offence under the Immigration Act Cap 15:03 of laws of Malawi
