Before buying any land, always verify ownership and land documents through the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, through the Department of Lands, Physical Planning Department and relevant authorities in all district councils.

Avoid making payments based only on verbal agreements or unsigned documents, as this can lead to disputes, fraud, or loss of money.

Protect your investment by ensuring the land is properly surveyed, registered and legally recognized.

Secure land ownership begins with proper verification.

SURVEYORS KEY TO MALAWI'S DEVELOPMENT AGENDA

The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Honourable Chimwemwe Chipungu, MP, on Wednesday, described surveyors and other built environment professionals as critical drivers of Malawi’s socio-economic transformation and development.

Addressing delegates when he officially opened the Mid-Year Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Conference, in Lilongwe, for the Surveyors Institute of Malawi, the Minister underscored that surveying profession remains central to land governance, infrastructure development, urban planning and investment management.

β€œAs a Ministry, we are aware that the surveying profession and the built environment sector require strong institutions and operational regulatory frameworks in order to function effectively and professionally,” the Minister said.

Chipungu noted that the conference theme, focusing on governance and sustainable public-private sector development, comes at a time when Malawi is pushing for industrialization, urbanization and agricultural commercialization under the Malawi Vision 2063.

He emphasized that surveyors are not merely service providers but strategic development partners whose expertise is essential in building a modern and industrialized economy.

Vice President of the Surveyors Institute of Malawi, Emmanuel Thawani, said the institution remains committed to enhancing professionalism, ethical conduct and competence among surveyors in the country through continuous professional development initiatives.

The Minister further highlighted efforts to operationalize key regulatory institutions, including the Valuation Tribunal, Board of Valuers, Real Estate Management Council, Land Survey Registration Board and the Malawi Geographic Information Council to strengthen professionalism.

MINISTER REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO COMPLETING SECURITY HOUSING PROJECTS

Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Honourable Chimwemwe Chipungu, MP, on Monday reaffirmed Government’s commitment to completing security housing projects during an inspection tour of houses under construction in Chinsapo, Lilongwe.

The visit aimed at appreciating progress on the project and assessing concerns surrounding reports that some of the houses had been vandalized. However, the Minister clarified that most of the structures were not damaged, but rather incomplete, with several awaiting roofing and finishing works.

"Ministry remains dedicated to ensuring the houses are completed to provide decent accommodation for officers in uniform, we hope, funds permitting, the ministry will roof all remaining houses,” said Chipungu.

Chipungu also revealed that Government plans to construct an additional 12,500 houses to help address the growing demand for quality housing among officers in uniform.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far and reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to mobilizing resources towards the completion of the 100 unfinished houses in Chinsapo and across the country.
