We are honoured to receive recognition for Agri-Impact Malawi’s work supporting smallholder farmers across Malawi.

At the core of our work is a simple belief: farming should not end at survival. It should create dignity, income, better nutrition, and resilience for rural households.

We work with smallholder farmers transitioning from low-productivity subsistence systems into market-linked agribusinesses. Our approach is deliberately market-driven, we start with demand and work backwards. This ensures farmers are equipped with climate-resilient seeds, practical knowledge, and enabling systems that connect them to real, reliable markets.

By strengthening value chain participation and improving access to finance, farmers are increasingly diversifying production, generating surplus, and reinvesting in their enterprises.

This recognition belongs to the farmers we work with, their resilience continues to drive real transformation in rural livelihoods.

We remain committed to building inclusive, resilient, and sustainable food systems in Malawi.

1,400 kilograms of soyabean seed was distributed this season.

40,012 kilograms harvested from the field.

That is what 40 households across 16.2 hectares produced when they had the right seed, the right training, and the right support behind them.

As of now, the revolving fund has recovered 2,724 of the 2,800 kilograms expected, a 97.3% return rate. That seed does not sit in a warehouse. It will go to 78 new households of the initiative in the next cycle.

A SHARED JOURNEY TOWARD STRONGER RURAL LIVELIHOODS IN CHIWAMBA EPA

Today, Agri-Impact Malawi continued its stakeholder engagement for the pilot project “Building Resilient and Market-Oriented Livelihoods in Malawi (NEVAM-MARKETS 2.0)” in Traditional Authority Chimutu, Lilongwe District.

During the meeting with the ministry of Agriculture staff, under Chiwamba EPA, a clear and shared story emerged, one of strengthening food security, improving nutrition, increasing household incomes, and building long-term resilience for vulnerable rural families.

At the heart of this initiative are 100 smallholder households, who will be supported with practical skills, productive assets, financial inclusion mechanisms, and market linkages to help them move toward more sustainable and dignified livelihoods.
The engagement was both insightful and encouraging, with strong collaboration from extension officers helping to refine our approach and strengthen implementation pathways.

Agri Impact Malawi on the 10th of April participated in the Lilongwe District Council Agriculture Field Day. The event, themed “Climate Smart, Diversification & Agricultural Commercialization,” provided an excellent platform to showcase our Seed Revolving Scheme which I'd benefitting over 200 farmers.

Our exhibition focused on high-quality soyabean and groundnut seed varieties, which are central to our mission of enhancing food security and soil health for smallholder farmers.

It was a privilege to engage with the Lilongwe District Council and agricultural stakeholders on how community led initiatives can drive commercialization and longterm rural development.

Our project team conducted a series of leadership-focused meetings with cluster leaders from 21 clubs drawn across all project initiatives in TA Chadza, including the Seed Revolving Scheme, Goat Pass-On, Irrigation, VSLA, and Backyard Gardening programs, with a strong emphasis on club-level and cluster-level monitoring.

The sessions strengthened leadership capacity by clarifying governance roles, improving record-keeping, and reinforcing accountability across the different initiative models. Cluster leaders were trained on practical monitoring tools and processes, including tracking activity performance, verifying recommended practices, documenting compliance with program-specific obligations, and aggregating club data at cluster level to support timely reporting and informed decision-making.

By equipping leaders with monitoring and oversight skills across initiatives, the project is enhancing data quality, early problem identification, and peer accountability, key pillars for safeguarding program integrity and supporting sustainable scale-up in future cycles.

Field monitoring in January indicates strong early performance among Seed Revolving Scheme participants across TA Chadza. Current verification data from 58 monitored plots shows an average germination rate of 87%, with plant populations ranging between 100,000–125,000 plants/acre. 72% of farmers completed first-round weeding within the optimal 14-18 day window after emergence, which is expected to positively influence yield outcomes. Under the revolving model, each household will return seed equivalent to twice their allocation at harvest, positioning the scheme to onboard approximately 80 new households in the next cycle. With this scaling trajectory, the initiative remains on course toward its 2028 goal of reaching 500 rural households with reliable access to certified, high-value seed.
