The official page of Peace Corps Malawi. The Peace Corps traces its roots and mission to 1960, when then Senator John F.

Kennedy challenged students at the University of Michigan to serve their country in the cause of peace by living and working in developing countries. From that inspiration grew an agency of the federal government devoted to world peace and friendship. Since that time, 200,000+ Peace Corps Volunteers have served in 139 host countries to work on issues ranging from AIDS education to information tech

It’s another great day as Health Volunteer Remy and her counterpart Vincent use a Volunteer Activity Support and Training (VAST) grant to launch a “Pig Pass-On Project” 🐖✨.

This initiative will create an avenue for stable income generation and boost social inclusion among the members of their community. It was pure joy watching the first recipients receive their pigs, and we’re excited for the sustainable impact this project will bring!

What an inspiring day of community innovation!
Environment Volunteer Soren and his counterpart Geoffrey Mbale joined a nearby village to demonstrate how to build a fuel-efficient brick stove. With Geoffrey’s support in mobilizing the community and gathering materials, they trained 86 residents to construct stoves that save time and money, reduce smoke exposure, and help protect local forests. A great example of community-driven learning and sustainable innovation.

During Pre-Service Training, Peace Corps Trainees live with a host family that helps them learn all about day-to-day life in Malawi. Our training staff did a cooking demonstration with the host families in preparation for the new cohort arriving in June.

Last month, volunteers and staff gathered together to paint Peace Rocks and talk about the impact of service. Our Language and Culture Coordinator Danitta wrote a poem to commemorate the day.
