The Law Commissioner, Ms Rosemary Kumitsonyo Kanyuka has delivered the opening statement at the Press Briefing marking the presentation of findings and recommendations by the Special Law Commission on the Review of the Refugees Act.

In her remarks, Ms Kanyuka highlighted that the review, which commenced in 2023, involved extensive research and consultations with key stakeholders, including refugees and asylum seekers, with the aim of developing a comprehensive, clear and up to date legal framework for the reception, protection and management of refugees in Malawi.

She described the press briefing as a significant milestone in concluding the review process and called on the media to help disseminate the Commission’s findings and recommendations to the public.

The Law Commission's press briefing on the review of the Refugees Act has officially commenced, bringing together key stakeholders to engage on the review process and matters relating to refugee protection and the legal framework governing refugees.

The Law Commission will today hold a Press Briefing to present the findings and recommendations arising from the review of the Refugees Act.

The briefing will provide an opportunity to share the outcomes of the review and highlight recommendations aimed at improving the legal framework governing refugee matters in Malawi.
