Directorate of Agriculture, environment and natural resources will from today 13th to 15th july hold a review meeting at Namiasi Residential Training centre (RTC) in Mangochi.
The purpose of the meeting is to review implementation of various program projects and activities under agriculture and natural resources sector.
This Directorate is comprises of Agriculture, Irrigation, Fisheries, Forestry, Water resources, Environment and Climate Change sector.
The review will provide basis and inform implementation of agriculture, environment and natural resources strategic investment plan 2021-2022, and it will also provide a platform for validation of 2021-2022 integrated Annual investment plan for the sector.
This is the first ever plan in the district and perhaps the whole country.

On Wednesday 16th june, the Ministry of Agriculture through it's Minister, Lobin Lowe(MP) visited Lingoni catchment conservation site, during National catchment management campaign launch ceremony.
The compaign will include manure making, fodder preservation, irrigation and natural resources management, and will run from June to September this year.

As one way of appreciating ongoing efforts in water resources Catchment management, Machinga District Council management team visited Lingoni site in T/A Chamba, yesterday, 10th June 2021, courtesy of Programme for Irrigation Development (PRIDE) and Enhancing the Resilience of Agro-ecological Ecosystems Project (ERASP).
Lingoni has immense potential for irrigation farming but continuous supply and flow of water is a key issue.
PRIDE supports irrigation to increase productivity and cropping intensity while ERASP focus on ecosystem, land and water management.

Today, Executive Committee for Nkula smallholder famers cooperative from Traditional Authority (T/A) Nkula held a meeting at Machinga District council.
The meeting was aimed at reviewing the progress of rolling out institutionally strong and financially viable cooperatives in the district.
Director of Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources for the district, Nditani Maluwa was in attendance, and it has also revealed that this process is aiming at achieving a total number of 19 cooperatives between the year 2021 and 2022.
