🌟 Umodzi Green Collect (UGC) Hosts Industrial & Environmental Physics Students for Renewable Energy Education Visit 🌟
This afternoon, Umodzi Green Collect (UGC) had the pleasure of hosting 4th-year BSc students specializing in Industrial and Environmental Physics for an exciting educational visit! As part of their Renewable Energy Technologies module, the students explored sustainable energy solutions, with a special focus on biogas technology.
🔋 Highlights of the Visit:
✅ Deep Dive into Biogas Production – Students learned how organic waste is transformed into clean, renewable energy through anaerobic digestion.
✅ Biodigester Technology in Action – A live demonstration showcased how UGC’s biodigesters efficiently convert agricultural and household waste into biogas for cooking, heating, and electricity.
✅ Interactive discussions on solar, wind, and other renewable energy systems
✅ Networking with industry experts on sustainability and green innovation
At UGC, we are passionate about advancing clean energy solutions and empowering future leaders in environmental science. It was inspiring to see the students’ enthusiasm for biogas as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels!

WASTE Advisers and GEMS Project Trialing UGC Biofertilizer on SC 419 Maize
In a push towards sustainable agriculture, Waste Advisers, under the GEMS Project, is currently testing UGC’s biofertilizer on SC 419 (Kanyani) maize variety. The initiative aims to evaluate the effectiveness of organic inputs in enhancing maize growth while reducing dependency on synthetic fertilizers.
The trial follows a structured fertilization plan:
✅ Basal Dressing: Compost, applied at 500ml per planting station on December 27, 2024
✅ Planting Date: December 28, 2024
✅ Top Dressing: UGC Biofertilizer, applied January 18, 2025, using a 1:3 dilution ratio (biofertilizer to water)
This experiment aligns with efforts to promote eco-friendly farming, improve soil health, and boost yields for smallholder farmers. If successful, the biofertilizer could become a game-changer for sustainable agriculture in Malawi.
Stay tuned for updates on the crop’s progress and yield results!

🌿 The Green Arena Pitching Event: A Platform for Innovation and Sustainability 🌿
We had an incredible time participating in The Green Arena pitching event at Mango Lodge in Zomba City on Friday, December 13, 2024. Hosted as part of the EU-funded Building Better Post-Economic Recovery through Recycling (EU-BB) project, the event brought together brilliant minds committed to creating a greener, more sustainable future.
Our team proudly presented our innovative eco-solutions to the panel of “Green Sharks” and connected with fellow entrepreneurs who share a passion for sustainability and environmental impact. The experience was not only inspiring but also a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable feedback and insight for scaling our ideas.
✨ A big thank you to the organizers and the EU-BB team for creating this dynamic platform for change. Together, we are building a better tomorrow. 🌱
