Location
The municipality of Santa Isabel Cholula is located in the west central part of the state of Puebla. Its geographic coordinates are parallel 18 º 56'36'' and 19 º 00'30'' north latitude and meridians 98 º 21'18'' and 98 º 24'54'' west longitude. The municipality is bordered on the north by the municipalities of San Gregorio and San Jerónimo Atzompa Tecuanipan, south to the town of Atlixco, east of the town of Ocoyuca, west with the municipalities of San Jerónimo and Tianguismanalco Tecuanipan. It has an area of 67.61 square kilometers that ranks 153 with respect to the other municipalities in the state. Orography
The municipality belongs to two morphological regions conventionally considered the height of 2,000 south belongs to Valle de Atlixco, and of the same height to the north, Puebla Valley. The municipality belongs to the basin of the river Atoyac, one of the most important watersheds in the state. The municipality is located in the temperate climate zone of the Valley of Puebla, and identifies climate: humid temperate climate with summer rains. Major Ecosystems
The municipality has the following plant characteristics: the highest in the Popocatépetl volcano areas have permanent snow and around these areas, high mountain meadow, the lower slopes of the Sierra Nevada are covered by pine forests, pine-oak and fir, sometimes associated with secondary shrub vegetation, and show a tendency to decrease the systematic deforestation by using wood or to incorporate new areas of cultivation. In its territory four groups of soils are identified:
Litosol. It comes in the highest parts of the volcano. Regozol. Burdensome presents phase (or tepetate rock fragments less than 7.5 cm in diameter). Cambisol. It occupies a small area in the center of town, has burdensome phase. Fluvisol. Mainly occupies the entire northeastern portion; presents burdensome phase.
