What’s Next for Malaysia’s E-Invoicing Journey?

MDEC recently concluded a series of targeted stakeholder workshops under the Study on Standard Specifications for New Business Documents, as part of ongoing efforts to advance business digitalisation in Malaysia.

The workshops brought together service providers, Peppol-ready solution providers, industry players, and ecosystem stakeholders to gather insights on business and technical requirements, validate document priorities, and assess industry readiness for the adoption of additional e-document types in Malaysia.

At the workshop held on 13 May 2026, Ir. Wan Murdani Wan Mohamad, Vice President, Digital Adoption of MDEC, emphasised Malaysia’s strong foundation and commitment to driving the next phase of business digitalisation.

Today marks the final day of a two-day Cabinet Paper Management Workshop, jointly organised by the Ministry of Digital and MDEC, which successfully brought together 50 participants from agencies under the Ministry of Digital. The workshop commenced with opening remarks by the by Deputy Secretary General (Strategic & Management), YBrs. Tuan Shakib Ahmad Shakir Bin Jamaluddin, Ministry of Digital, followed by sessions featuring speakers from the Cabinet Division (Bahagian Kabinet), Prime Minister’s Office.

The workshop focused on strengthening alignment across agencies while enhancing the quality and effectiveness of Cabinet Papers, supporting more structured, coherent, and impactful submissions in line with established guidelines and expectations.

MDEC was honoured to participate in the National Contact Centre Conference (NCCC) 2026, a key industry platform bringing together leaders and ecosystem players to shape the future of customer experience, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital services.

In his keynote address, MDEC CEO Anuar Fariz Fadzil highlighted that while automation and AI continue to accelerate industry transformation, human empathy, trust and meaningful engagement must remain central to delivering exceptional customer experiences. The strong evolution of Malaysia’s contact centre and global business services industry over the past two decades reinforces the nation’s position as a trusted regional hub for multilingual and high‑value customer experience operations.

MDEC remains steadfast in our commitment to driving industry growth through talent development, capacity building and strong ecosystem collaboration, as Malaysia advances its digital economy leadership on the regional and global stage.

MDEC was invited to the U.S.-Malaysia Tech Exchange: Challenges and Opportunities in Data Center Infrastructure, hosted by the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur on 30 April at JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur. The session was opened by David H. Gamble Jr., Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and convened key stakeholders across government and industry to discuss the opportunities and challenges shaping Malaysia’s data centre landscape.

Ir. Wan Murdani Wan Mohamad, Vice President of Digital Adoption, MDEC, was featured as a panel speaker alongside representatives from AWS and GE Vernova, contributing strategic perspectives on enabling sustainable digital infrastructure, strengthening ecosystem collaboration and advancing Malaysia’s digital economy agenda.

The session also drew strong participation from industry players and stakeholders across the data centre ecosystem, reflecting growing interest and momentum in Malaysia’s digital infrastructure development.

As a Supporting Partner for the APU Mega Career Fair 2026, Digital Talent, MDEC continues to support stronger industry-academia collaboration and nurture future-ready digital talents towards Malaysia’s aspiration of becoming an AI Nation by 2030. Ir. Wan Murdani Wan Mohamad, Vice President of Digital Adoption represented MDEC in the media interview together with COO of APU Mr. Gurpadeep Singh to share insights on the importance of strengthening industry-academia collaboration and developing industry-ready digital and AI talents for the nation.

As one of the recognised MD Premier Digital Tech Institutions (MD PDTI) since 2017, Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation continues to play an important role in nurturing Malaysia’s future digital talents through industry-driven learning, innovation exposure and strong ecosystem collaboration. This year’s edition gathered more than 100 companies offering over 10,000 job opportunities, including participation from more than 40 Malaysia Digital (MD) status companies.

Amid the vibrant atmosphere of the career fair, the delegates had the opportunity to witness thousands of attendees actively exploring job opportunities, engaging with industry players and building new professional connections within the digital ecosystem before concluding the engagement with a networking luncheon.

The MDSG-MFG briefing session was officiated by VP of Digital Adoption, Mr Wan Murdani, who shared valuable insights on empowering local Technology Solution Providers (TSPs) and advancing smart manufacturing to align with the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030).

The session highlighted Malaysia’s strong local TSP capabilities and innovation strengths, with a clear focus on scaling impactful, industry-ready solutions. This reflects MDEC’s continued efforts to drive digital transformation and strengthen Malaysia's digital economy landscape.

Advancing Brazil–Malaysia Partnerships in Semiconductors and the Digital Economy at SEMICON SEA 2026

In collaboration with the Embassy of Brazil in Kuala Lumpur, MDEC participated in a high-level engagement at SEMICON SEA 2026 (SEA-SEMI), featuring MDEC CEO Mr Anuar Fariz. The session highlighted the strategic Brazil–Malaysia partnership, particularly across the semiconductor and advanced technology value chain.

A key highlight was the MoU exchange between MDEC and Invest Rio Grande do Sul, witnessed by H.E. Mrs Daniella Ortega de Paiva Menezes, Ambassador of Brazil to Malaysia. The MoU formalises a framework for enhanced bilateral cooperation in digital trade, investment facilitation, ecosystem development, and market access, covering sectors such as semiconductors, smart cities, digital content, fintech, and cybersecurity.

These strategic partnerships align with Malaysia’s national semiconductor agenda, strengthening supply chain resilience, accelerating innovation-led investments, and creating sustainable economic value for both nations.

The programme also included engagements with MDEC GAIN companies at their respective booths—Pentamaster Corporation Berhad, Vitrox Corporation Berhad, TT Vision Technologies Sdn Bhd, and DF Automation Sdn Bhd—showcasing Malaysia’s semiconductor strengths and capabilities to international stakeholders.
