A New Milestone in Adult Autism Management A significant milestone was achieved in the history of Adult Autism Management in Malaysia, particularly within the state of Johor. The Autism Awareness Day, organized by Hospital Permai Johor Bahru on May 14, 2026, highlighted the immense enthusiasm of caregivers and medical professionals in managing this condition.

The event drew 128 participants for the forums and talks, alongside 62 booth exhibitors, all deeply engaged in discussions surrounding the Adult Autism spectrum. Key topics included sexual maturation, emotional dysregulation during puberty, career and academic progression, as well as relationships and marriage. In addition to specialists from the Southern region, the event featured speakers from the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) who addressed academic hurdles, public facility challenges in local universities, and available amenities.

The diverse array of exhibition booths beautifully demonstrated the spirit of collaboration between medical professionals and key community bodies. Active participants included the Hospital Permai Occupational Therapy Department, the Medical Social Welfare Unit (SWO) Johor, Majlis Agama Islam Negeri Johor (MAINJ), and PERKESO, alongside private Early Intervention Programme (EIP) bodies. Notably, a special booth was dedicated to one of our esteemed speakers, Mr. Arif Ho—an IIUM PhD candidate and recognized Adult Autism Icon of Selangor (Ikon Anak Istimewa Selangor)—who showcased and sold his insightful book, Fiqh Autism.

The full-day event concluded on a high note with vibrant engagement and quiz prizes awarded to attentive participants. Moving forward, we look forward to planning more initiatives to continuously empower both caregivers and medical professionals.
