The BIMP-EAGA Forum 2026: Sub-regional Opportunities for Business Cooperation with ASEAN was held on September 17, 2026 at the SMX Convention Center in Lanang, Davao City.

It was organized by MinDA and the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) as part of the ASEAN Innovation Summit 2026.

The forum brought together government, business, development partners, and the diplomatic community to turn Vision 2035 plans into projects and investments.

The Sarawak Transport Ministry and Malaysia Productivity Corporation, through the Logistics Productivity Nexus, launched the Cross-Border Operational Guidebook for Sarawak–Brunei–Sabah Transportation Efficiency, which seeks to facilitate smoother and more efficient movement of goods and passengers across Borneo.

The guidebook was launched at the BIMP-EAGA Land Transport Memorandums of Understanding Review and Stakeholder Workshop on Sept 14 and 15 in Kuching.

Direct AirAsia flights linking Kota Kinabalu with Bintulu and Sibu will resume in November, according to Bintulu MP Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing.

In a statement on Facebook, Tiong said the Kota Kinabalu-Bintulu service will resume on Nov 1 with three flights weekly, followed by the Kota Kinabalu-Sibu route on Nov 2 with four flights weekly.

A landmark deal set to be signed in November to bolster ASEAN’s digital economy promises to be a game changer for BIMP-EAGA. Touted to be the first major regionwide digital economy agreement in the world, the Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) is expected to make it easier, safer, and more seamless for businesses and consumers to participate in the digital economy.

If successfully implemented, the deal could unlock the full potential of ASEAN’s digital economy, which is projected to grow to $2 trillion by 2030, according to a study from the Boston Consulting Group.

BIMP-EAGA Vision 2035 (BEV 2035), which was adopted last May, recognizes the opportunities digitalization presents. The strategic roadmap notes the need to strengthen subregional cooperation in advancing seamless digital connectivity to sustain growth, enhance resilience, and safeguard development gains across the subregion.

To advance digital transformation, BIMP-EAGA aims to adopt emerging technologies, enhance cross-border digital infrastructure, strengthen cybersecurity and data governance frameworks, and promote interoperable digital systems.
