The Institute for Development Studies (Sabah) (IDS) hosted the Meeting on the Coordination of Implementation and Strategic Direction of Collaboration between Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), IDS Sabah and the Malaysian Prison Department at the IDS Conference Meeting Room.
The meeting was chaired by Datuk Ts. Dr. Ramzah Dambul, Chief Executive Officer of IDS Sabah, and brought together key delegation leaders, including YBrs. Dr. Roddy Teo from the Sabah State Health Department, Dr. Esther Jawing, Head of Delegation from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), and TPP Oliver Girih Jiniu, Head of Delegation from the Malaysian Prison Department, alongside representatives from IDS Sabah.
The discussion focused on the progress, implementation and future strategic direction of the ReTrack 2.0 initiative and the Correctional Living Lab.
Building on the foundation of ReTrack 1.0, ReTrack 2.0 aims to advance research-driven solutions to support more effective monitoring and rehabilitation. Meanwhile, the Correctional Living Lab promotes humane approaches, skills development and meaningful opportunities for individuals under correctional supervision to rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society.
The meeting also addressed key areas of collaboration, including the implementation of the Correctional Living Lab 2026, the final report and research findings of ReTrack 2.0, and the publication of Di Sebalik Tembok Meniti Kebebasan.
Through continued collaboration among IDS Sabah, UMS, the Malaysian Prison Department and the Sabah State Health Department, these initiatives reflect a shared commitment to translating research and innovation into meaningful social impact, strengthening rehabilitation outcomes and contributing to safer, more inclusive communities.
Together, we move forward towards meaningful innovation, sustainable rehabilitation and a better future beyond the walls.
