Madam Yeo Bee Hoon, 57, from Kepong Desa Jaya, is a single mother who has endured a life of hardship yet remains remarkably strong. 👩👧Many years ago, her husband passed away due to illness, leaving behind heavy medical debts and leaving her to care alone for her daughter, Yong Xin, who is mentally disabled and suffers from epilepsy.
29-year-old Yong Xin has never attended school. With limited intellectual development and frequent epileptic seizures that require long-term medication, she can only join occasional church activities. As a mother, Bee Hoon feels constant worry and heartache, yet she grits her teeth and carries the family forward. 😔
To make a living, Bee Hoon travels daily from Kepong to Taman Sri Sinar to collect traditional kuih from her kind-hearted cousin. Although the cousin runs only a small business, she donates generously every year and often prepares extra portions or sells them at a cheaper price so that Bee Hoon can earn a modest living. 🌤️
After collecting the kuih, Bee Hoon walks under the scorching sun, carrying a basket from street to street, calling out to sell. Her daughter, who walks with a limp, follows closely as they weave through the neighbourhood. They earn about RM50 a day — barely enough — and on rainy days, they often earn nothing at all. Despite this, she never complains; she only sighs quietly from time to time, but never cries in front of others. 💔
Some encouraged her to apply for a PPR low-cost unit, but she replied with a bitter smile, “People like me… how would I ever get chosen…”. Until a kind soul helped her approach Kepong’s YB Lim Lip Eng. After much effort, DBKL finally called: her application was approved. At that moment, she felt as though she had won a grand prize, repeating “Thank you… thank you so much” over and over. 🙏
Now, the mother and daughter can finally move into PPR Gombak Setia — a stable home they have dreamed of for years. But moving expenses, basic renovation, and essential household items once again weigh heavily on her shoulders. She is willing to contribute what she can, but hopes someone can lend a helping hand at the critical moments so she will not be overwhelmed again.
Thanks to the kind contributions of second-hand furniture, appliances, lighting, window grilles, and volunteers who helped with installation and painting, much of her burden has been lifted. These acts of kindness have brought warmth and security to this pair of mother and daughter who depend solely on each other. May every good intention continue to shine light into their lives. 🙏✨
