Strengthening collaboration for sustainably managed islands and marine ecosystems ๐
Reef Check Malaysia, together with WWF-Malaysia, recently organised the Inter-State Dialogue: Integrated Management of Islands and Marine Areas in Peninsular Malaysia, bringing together representatives from four State Parks organisations, Terengganu State Parks, Johor National Parks, Taman Negeri Pahang and Perbadanan Taman Negeri Perak - Perak State Parks Corporation and also Pejabat Daerah Mersing.
The dialogue provided valuable insights into each state's management operations, experiences and challenges. By sharing knowledge and perspectives, we gained a better understanding of the different approaches to island and marine area management, and how we can learn from one another to strengthen conservation efforts.
We are grateful to all representatives for their active participation and open exchange of ideas. Our sincere appreciation also go to the the Directors of the State Parks organisations and the Mersing District Officer, YBhg. Dato' Haji Tun Ahmad Faisal bin Tun Abdul Razak, YBhg. Tuan Haji Jamil Hasni bin Abdullah, Y.Brs. Encik Zainal Abidin bin Othman and Y.Brs. Encik Sufian bin Suleiman, and also to Y.Brs. Puan Intan Shahirah Salahuddin, who represented the Director of Perak State Parks Corporation, for their presence, contributions and support throughout the dialogue.
We believe that collaboration and knowledge-sharing are essential to addressing shared challenges and building more effective approaches to marine conservation.
We look forward to strengthening these partnerships and exploring future collaborations towards sustainably managed islands and marine ecosystems in Malaysia.
The project is supported by Oceans 5.
