President Emomali Rahmon Meets UN Under-Secretaries-General Ahead of Dushanbe Water Conference

On May 25, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, met with a group of United Nations Under-Secretaries-General who arrived in Tajikistan to participate in the Fourth High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028.”

The Head of State, Emomali Rahmon, welcomed the Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCAP, Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana; the Under-Secretary-General and Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Water, Ms. Retno Marsudi; and the Rector of the UN University and United Nations Under-Secretary-General, Mr. Tshilidzi Marwala, and invited them to the meeting hall.

At the beginning of the meeting, the President expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the high-ranking guests for visiting Tajikistan to participate in the conference, as well as for their continued support of the Dushanbe Water Process.

The discussion continued with a high appraisal of cooperation between the United Nations and Tajikistan, including support for the country’s global initiatives, particularly in the areas of water resources and climate, transport and logistics, sustainable energy, agricultural development, digitalization, and green technologies.

It was emphasized that, in the field of water resources alone, 14 UN resolutions have been adopted at Tajikistan’s initiative.

The parties expressed confidence that the current conference would become an important global platform for uniting efforts in this area and advancing water diplomacy, and would contribute to addressing key issues related to water resources and climate within the framework of the Dushanbe Water Process.

A fruitful exchange of views also took place regarding the further promotion of the outcomes of previous conferences, the successful conduct of the current forum, and preparations for similar events scheduled for 2026 and 2028.

During discussions on cooperation with the UN University, confidence was expressed that expanding scientific and practical ties between Tajik scientists, researchers, and experts and this prestigious institution would yield significant results.

Asia Pacific Regional Preparatory Meeting for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference 2026

Asia Pacific Regional Preparatory Meeting for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference 2026 was held on 25 May 2026 in Dushanbe, on the sidelines of the Fourth High-Level International Conference dedicated to the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028”, taking place at the National Library of Tajikistan.

The event was organized by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

The meeting brought together representatives from 29 countries and 30 international and regional organizations, with a total attendance of more than 100 participants. Delegates from across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond exchanged views on regional progress, key challenges, and priorities in advancing Sustainable Development Goal 6.

Discussions also highlighted the importance of strengthening the integration of water-related issues with other Sustainable Development Goals, as well as accelerating progress towards SDG 6 through enhanced cooperation and stronger regional partnerships.

It is expected that the outcomes of the Regional Meeting will contribute to the final documents of the Fourth Dushanbe Water Conference, as well as to the preparations for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference.

In conclusion, participants expressed their appreciation to the Republic of Tajikistan for the high-level organization of the Regional meeting in Dushanbe, as well as for its warm hospitality.

Meeting of the Minister with the Executive Secretary of ESCAP

On 25 May 2026, on the sidelines of the 4th High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028”, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Mr. Sirojiddin Muhriddin, received the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), H.E. Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and ESCAP, particularly in the areas of water resources and climate, strengthening interaction between the organization and the ministries and agencies of the country across various fields, as well as documents adopted within the framework of ESCAP sessions.

Political Consultations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Indonesia

On 27 May 2026, the second round of political consultations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Indonesia at the level of Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs was held in Dushanbe under the co-chairmanship of Mr. Idibek Kalandar, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, and H.E. Mr. Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

During the consultations, the parties discussed a broad range of issues related to the further development of bilateral and multilateral relations between Tajikistan and Indonesia, cooperation within international and regional organizations, as well as other matters of mutual interest.

Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan “On the International Avicenna Prize in the Field of Medicine

The International Avicenna Prize in the Field of Medicine was established by a Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan with the purpose of honoring the contribution of the great son of the Tajik nation, Abu Ali ibn Sina (Avicenna), to healthcare and the development of medical science at the global level.

The latest initiative of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, on the establishment of the International Avicenna Prize in the Field of Medicine represents a unique initiative at the international level and constitutes an important step toward the study and promotion of the scientific legacy of this eminent son of the Tajik people worldwide. It will also play an effective role in the development of medical science and the international healthcare system.

It is particularly noteworthy that issues related to health and sanitation occupy a key place in the scientific works of Abu Ali ibn Sina, while subjects concerning human health, the environment, and the prevention of infectious diseases are extensively reflected in his scholarly heritage. Owing to his immortal works, Ibn Sina remains relevant and in step with humanity even today.

The scientific research, theories, and practical recommendations of Abu Ali ibn Sina have not only preserved their scientific and practical significance to this day, but have also contributed to the advancement of global public health, particularly in the prevention of infectious diseases that in recent years have caused serious concern for humankind, and have been validated through modern scientific methods.

Currently, a State Medical University in our country and a district in our beloved capital city of Dushanbe bear the name of this distinguished scholar.

At the same time, pursuant to the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On Holidays,” 18 August — the birth date of Abu Ali ibn Sina — is annually celebrated in the country as the professional holiday of medical workers.

The establishment of the International Avicenna Prize in the Field of Medicine, as another initiative of the Leader of the Nation, constitutes an important measure toward promoting Tajik medical science and honoring the memory of the outstanding sons of the Tajik nation. It once again demonstrates that Sheikh al-Ra’is Abu Ali ibn Sina, as one of the greatest philosophers, scholars, physicians, and poets of the Tajik people, made an outstanding contribution to the development and progress of world civilization, and that his name has become cherished and eternal for all humanity.

The establishment of this Prize by Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan represents recognition of outstanding achievements in the field of medicine at the international level. The Decree encompasses issues related to the establishment of the Prize, the drafting and approval of its regulations, and the formation of its prize fund.

The aforementioned initiative is aimed at encouraging scholars in the field of medicine not only within the country, but also at the international level. It once again testifies to the ancient history of Tajik medical science and will make a significant contribution to addressing existing challenges in the field of healthcare and international public health.

The Prize shall be awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the development of international healthcare and global medical science.

It can be stated with confidence that the latest initiative of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, will play an effective role in addressing global healthcare challenges and, like his other initiatives of worldwide significance, will receive the support of the international community.

Water for a Sustainable Economy
Water is the foundation of food production, energy, and industrial development. From May 25 to 28 this year in Dushanbe, discussions will focus on how to improve water efficiency, promote a green economy, and support business initiatives that take water footprints into account.

On 5 May 2026, the Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to Malaysia, HE Ardasher Qodiri, paid a working visit to the National Water Research Institute of Malaysia under the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (NAHRIM).
During the visit, the Ambassador was briefed on the Institute’s core activities and toured its laboratories and technical facilities, gaining first-hand insight into Malaysia’s applied research and innovation ecosystem in the water sector.
Subsequently, the Ambassador held a meeting with the Director General of NAHRIM, Dato' Dr. Nasehir Khan bin E.M. Yahya, the Deputy Director General, Dr. Safari bin Hj. Mat Desa, and members of the Institute’s senior leadership.
The discussions focused on identifying practical avenues for bilateral cooperation, including the exchange of expertise between relevant institutions of Tajikistan and Malaysia, joint research engagement, and potential collaboration in technology transfer within the water management and hydrological research spheres.

Representatives of the Embassy of Tajikistan Participated in Symposium in Bangkok
On 29 April 2026, representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan participated in the international symposium “Thailand and Central Asia: Forging Sustainable Connectivity and New Partnerships in a Dynamic Eurasia,” held at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok.
The event was organized on the occasion of the inauguration of the Center for Central Asia Studies at Chulalongkorn University in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.
During the symposium, participants discussed issues related to strengthening cooperation between Thailand and Central Asian countries, including connectivity, sustainable development, education, and long-term partnerships.
