Over the past 2 days, 18th and 19th May, the Dutch Horticulture Mission delegation to Malaysia visited several cutting-edge horticulture facilities in Cameron Highlands, graciously hosted by the farming community there.
In conjunction with the horticulture mission, His Royal Highness, the Sultan of Pahang graciously visited SMACH Agropark, where the Dutch delegation and high-level government officials were there to receive him. SMACH Agropark is a visionary project spearheaded by His Royal Highness to promote advancements in modern agricultural technology while providing skills training opportunities for the youth in Pahang. The Dutch delegation had the opportunity to see in-person best farming practices in Cameron Highlands, and to think about how they could contribute to this project.
As part of the trade mission, a Seminar on Sustainable Farming was held as well, to encourage cross-exchange of ideas between Dutch and Malaysian agritech stakeholders. It was our deepest honour for His Royal Highness, the Sultan of Pahang, to grace the occasion as our Guest of Honour. It was an immensely insightful evening with sharings from Dutch and Malaysian experts in areas like pesticide-free farming, multi-stakeholder collaborations, and agri-management skills training. During the seminar, we were most honoured to listen to the perspectives and questions graciously shared by His Royal Highness.
We were hosted by 2 farms, K.C. Kwang and Sons as well as Daido Hana, for visits over the 2 days. It was an eye-opening experience for the delegation to witness large-scale production of vegetables, fruits, and flowers, within Cameron Highlands. There, they witnessed first-hand how major horticultural production facilities in Cameron Highlands are managed and operated, and learnt about the factors that contributed to their business success.
All in all, it was an immensely fruitful 2 days in Cameron Highlands, and we would like to express our gratitude to all supporting stakeholders and organizing team. There were many discussions sparked throughout all of the events, and may these discussions plant the seeds for the collaborations of the future.

Today is Europe Day 🇪🇺
On the 9th of May, many Europeans join in celebrating Europe Day. It marks the anniversary of the historic Schuman Declaration in 1950, which laid the foundation for a new form of political cooperation in Europe.
Every country has its national holidays—moments to rest, reflect, and celebrate. Europe has one too: 9 May is Europe Day—a time to celebrate everything we share. But for most of us, it comes and goes like any other workday. That needs to change.
Europe Day is meant to be a celebration of unity, culture, and connection—so how about it actually feels like one? We want Europe Day to be a real celebratory day—a moment to pause, gather, and celebrate what makes Europe home.

Together with 18 Dutch companies, we kicked off our Advanced Manufacturing Economic Mission in Penang (3–8 May), led by Peter Stolk (Holland High Tech). Day one already set the tone: insightful visits to industry leaders like Smith+Nephew, VAT Manufacturing, and Bruker. One thing stood out immediately; the scale, maturity, and ambition of Malaysia’s semiconductor ecosystem is seriously impressive.
It is no surprise that a growing group of Dutch companies is choosing Malaysia to expand their operations. The momentum is real.
Next stop: Kuala Lumpur for SEMICON Southeast Asia 2026, a global hub for the semiconductor industry. The Netherlands Pavilion was officially opened by Jacques (Jaap) Werner, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Malaysia. The program in Kuala Lumpur is attended by Vice Minister Mr. Michiel Sweers, underscoring the importance of strong Government-to-Government (G2G) engagement in advancing bilateral cooperation.
At the Netherlands pavilion, 18 companies are showcasing everything from advanced manufacturing to high-tech equipment and integrated supply chains. With contributions from industry leaders like Eduard Stiphout from ASML and Maurice Geraets from NXP Semiconductors, plus pitches from all exhibitors, it is a powerful display of what the Dutch semiconductor ecosystem brings to the table.
And concretely: a signing ceremony of a Dutch Malaysian joint venture between VHE and Smartlink Engineering Sdn. Bhd. and the presentation of Supplier of the Year Award for outstanding performance from Applied Materials to CoreDux.
With high-level meetings, new partnerships, and lots of energy on both sides, this mission clearly shows the potential of strengthening ties between our semiconductor ecosystems.
To be continued…

Liberation Day 🕊️
On 5 May, we celebrate the absence of war, the restoration of the constitutional state after the Second World War and the fact that it enables us to live in freedom. Festivities are held throughout the Netherlands over the course of the day.
A peaceful, just, and thriving society can only exist in a country free from war, where human rights are upheld. The Netherlands stands for democracy and rule of law. Societies where everyone has a voice and a role in shaping the future. Upholding democracy is a responsibility of all citizens.
Conflict and oppression continue in many parts of the world today. Freedom is never guaranteed; it must be safeguarded through daily actions, by protecting democracy, upholding the rights of others, and ensuring that history’s lessons are not forgotten. Only by doing so can we ensure peace and free and tolerant societies for generations to come.

‘During the national commemoration of Remembrance Day we remember all – civilians and soldiers – who have been killed or murdered in the Kingdom of the Netherlands or anywhere else in the world in war situations or during peacekeeping operations since the outbreak of the Second World War.’
This year it is 81 years since the end of the Second World War.
Across the Netherlands, we reflect on how our country was liberated and thank our liberators for their courage and the sacrifices they have made. We remember those who lost their lives, soldiers and civilians alike. Their sacrifices paved the way for the freedom we cherish today.
Yesterday on the 4th of May, Ambassador Jaap Werner visited Dutch students from LanguageOne Kuala Lumpur, to talk about the Second World War and the importance of commemoration. The students also made their own poem about commemoration.
In Penang, Deputy Ambassador Pieter Blussé Blusse placed a bouquet of flowers at Queensbay, to commemorate together with the participants of the Advanced Manufacturing Economic Mission.

On World Press Freedom Day, we salute the brave journalists who risk everything to bring us the truth. They are the backbone of free societies.
Press freedom is under threat worldwide, especially in conflict zones. Journalists face violence and imprisonment just for doing their job. This must end.
Media freedom is essential for a well-informed society. The Netherlands stands united in supporting independent journalism and protecting journalists worldwide.
Reliable journalism is vital for well-informed societies. The Netherlands stands firm in supporting press freedom and the safety of journalists.
