8th October is International Dyslexia Awareness Day but this occasion is also celebrated throughout the month of Oxtober.

On this occasion, we would like to highlight that the incidence is 1 in 5, largely disproportionate to the ratio of those who are aware of what dyslexia is.

Dyslexia is a learning disorder that involves difficulty reading due to problems identifying speech sounds and learning how they relate to letters and words (decoding). Also called a reading disability, dyslexia is a result of individual differences in areas of the brain that process language.

It is in fact a very manageable condition and if given early and proper intervention, the child has every opportunity to unlock their literacy skills.

On that note, I would like to talk about a decision that women... many, many women have to make when their child has been diagnosed with a neurological condition.

Usually it is the mom who has to decide whether to quit or not to quit their career or their businesses - me including.

It is not an easy decision because it affects your income.

Imagine losing all the retainer clients who have been following me for six to ten years! 😭

But in the end, I decided to let go and give my kids 100%.

Because the clock is ticking; and if I miss the window for early intervention, there is no way that I can turn back time.

I am sharing my story because I hope to give other women the courage to step into the unknown.

I really thought I would have work withdrawal symptoms, but I did not.

Now that they are off therapies and are more stable, I have slowly eased myself back to work.

But I have to be honest with you, restarting at 40+ is not easy.

But you have to believe in yourself and just like what our Oscar winner said...

"Don't ever let anyone tell you that you are past your prime."
