Launched by the Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM), World Paper Free Day, which falls on November 6th, 2023 is a global initiative that encourages individuals and organizations to reduce paper consumption and use, serving as a reminder of the importance of going paperless for a sustainable environment and more efficient work processes. The theme for this year is “If You're 'Fantastic', Do Something 'Dramatic' To Cut The 'Plastic', Use 'Paper Bags”. This theme urges people to make a change in their lives by switching to paper bags instead of plastic bags.
Paper bags are a more sustainable option, as they are made from renewable resources and can be recycled, although they do have a higher water footprint. They decompose more quickly than plastic bags, which can take hundreds of years to break down in landfills.
Remember that the benefits of reducing plastic usage go beyond saving the environment. It can also lead to cost savings and increased efficiency, not only contributing to a greener future but also to advocacy and awareness. Together, we can make a difference for the environment and future generations.

International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste is a globally recognized observance dedicated to raising awareness about the critical issue of food loss and waste. It is a reminder of the urgent need to reduce food loss and waste to address global hunger, improve food security, and promote sustainable practices in agriculture and food systems. It is celebrated annually on 29th September with the 2023 theme “Reducing food loss and waste: Taking Action to Transform Food Systems”. It is a call to action for the public and private sectors to innovate ways to reduce food loss and waste to build more resilient food systems.

Geneco UK, a subsidiary of Wessex Water, has made it their business to reduce food waste by recycling it into biofuel and biofertilizer. Last year, their vehicle, the Bio-Bee, collected over 1,610 tonnes of food waste which can fuel a Bio-Bee vehicle for 720,000 miles, or power over 190 homes.

We can help out by being mindful consumers, reducing waste, supporting local business, and spreading awareness. Together, we can make a difference!

International Coastal Cleanup Day is a global initiative dedicated to keeping our coastlines clean and healthy!

Coastline ecosystems are important as they are home to many marine species making these locations amazing spots for diving and other activities. Unfortunately, these beautiful places are threatened by litter and pollution. Plastic waste, cigarette butts, discarded fishing gear, and other debris harm marine life and damage these vital ecosystems.

International Coastal Cleanup Day is a chance for us to make a difference. Organised annually on 16th September, we have an opportunity to help clean up beaches, shorelines, and coastal areas, where we are not only removing harmful debris but also raising awareness about the importance of preserving these natural treasures.

Let's come together and take action for a cleaner, healthier planet.

Orangutans are fascinating and highly intelligent great apes that are native to the rainforests of Southeast Asia, including Indonesia and Malaysia. They are known for their distinctive reddish-brown fur and their ability to live both on the ground and in trees. Orangutans are incredibly vital to their ecosystems as seed dispersers, playing a crucial role in maintaining the biodiversity of their habitats.
Orangutans are facing dire threats primarily due to rampant habitat loss caused by deforestation, illegal pet and wildlife trade, poaching, and the impacts of climate change further stressing their ecosystems. Thus, the International Orangutan Day was founded.
International Orangutan Day is an annual event celebrated on August 19th to raise awareness about orangutans and their rapidly disappearing natural habitats. On this day, various organizations, conservationists, researchers, and passionate individuals come together to organize events, campaigns, and activities that highlight the importance of orangutan conservation. Let's work towards a future where these incredible animals continue to thrive in their natural homes without the threat of habitat loss or degradation.
