Let’s celebrate the wonderful Angklung performance by the students of Program Pendidikan Khas Integrasi (PPKI), SMK Malim! They were performing ‘Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo De Xin’ and ‘Kenanganku’ with their musical pieces at the closing ceremony of closing ceremony of PETAH KPM 2026, held on 15th October 2026 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

Melaka, 13–15 October 2026 – SEAMEO SEN successfully hosted a course on Fingertip Futures: Enhancing Teachers’ Capacity in Braille Education for Learners with Special Educational Needs, bringing together participants from across Malaysia for three days of learning, collaboration and professional development.

Throughout the programme, participants explored the history and significance of Braille in promoting independence, accessibility and inclusive learning opportunities for learners with visual impairments. Through engaging discussions, hands-on activities and collaborative learning, participants deepened their understanding of the Braille Code, practised Braille reading techniques, and shared practical strategies for adapting curricula and integrating inclusive pedagogical approaches into classroom practices.

A heartfelt appreciation goes to Dr. Alya Qasdina Ng Ai Lee, our distinguished speaker for her dedication, expertise and invaluable insights throughout the three-day programme. Her sharing and practical guidance enriched participants’ understanding of Braille education and reinforced the importance of creating accessible and inclusive learning environments for all learners.

Our sincere thanks also go to all participants for their enthusiasm, active engagement and commitment to strengthening inclusive education. Your contributions made this programme a meaningful learning experience and further advanced our shared mission of promoting inclusive education across the region.

28 September is the International Day for Universal Access to Information. 📖

Everyone has the right to information, and that includes people with blindness, low vision and deafblindness. Braille means being able to read for yourself: a school book, a medicine label, a public notice, a vote.

The SEAMEO Regional Centre for Special Educational Needs (SEAMEO SEN) successfully convened its 14th Governing Board Meeting (GBM) 2026, bringing together Governing Board Members, representatives, resource persons, observers, and key personnel from across the region.

The three-day meeting provided a strategic platform to review the Centre’s progress, deliberate key matters, strengthen governance, and chart future directions in advancing quality and inclusive education for learners with special educational needs.

The programme also featured engaging knowledge-sharing sessions focusing on ethical frameworks, policy harmonisation and data-driven equity in AI-enabled inclusion, as well as Universal Design for Learning (UDL) powered by adaptive intelligence. These were complemented by masterclass sessions showcasing innovative practices and approaches in inclusive education.

The meeting concluded with the adoption of the meeting proceedings, consideration of the 15th Governing Board Meeting 2027, closing formalities, and the presentation of certificates, reaffirming the collective commitment towards strengthening SEAMEO SEN’s regional role and impact.

SEAMEO SEN extends its sincere appreciation to all Governing Board Members, representatives, resource persons, observers, and partners for their valuable contributions, active participation, and continued support.

Together, we continue to advance inclusive, equitable and accessible education for every learner.

SEAMEO SEN successfully organised the Regional Symposium 2026 on 18 September 2026 at Hatten Hotel Melaka, in conjunction with the 14th SEAMEO SEN Governing Board Meeting.

Held under the theme Co-Creating the Future: Adapting AI Ecosystems for Lifelong Learning and Inclusion in SEN, the symposium was officiated by YBhg. Datuk Dr. Azam Ahmad, Director-General of Education Malaysia, and brought together participants from the Ministry of Education Malaysia, Teacher Education Institute, universities, and education development agencies.

With a focus on AI, lifelong learning, and inclusion in special educational needs, the symposium provided a platform for participants to share ideas, exchange experiences, and discuss how technology can support more inclusive learning opportunities.

The programme featured plenary sessions and masterclasses, offering participants the opportunity to learn from speakers, explore new perspectives, and reflect on the role of AI in supporting learners with special educational needs.

As we look towards the future, we hope that the conversations and connections made during this symposium will continue to inspire meaningful action in inclusive education.
