🗞 THE STAR: Stop-work order on hillside project

🔴 PETALING Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has issued a stop-work order for an on-going hillslope condominium project at Damansara Perdana in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Its developer had also been asked to present a detailed slope strengthening and other safety measures in two weeks.

This was following complaints by residents of a terrace housing scheme, who said there were strong flow of water and mud during downpours.

The residents believed the mud and water flow came from the project behind their homes.

The new condominium project comprises three 26-storey blocks.

Damansara MP Gobind Singh Deo, who made a site visit with MBPJ Engineering Department director Ahmad Roslan Hairudin and other representatives, said residents of Empire Residence had expressed concerns about the hillslope development, such as the stability of the retaining wall behind their houses.

“There are questions as to whether the slope is safe, as part of it is said to be classified as Class 3 and Class 4,” said Gobind.

Class 3 slopes can sometimes be developed but with strict restrictions, while no permanent building development is allowed on Class 4 slopes.

Gobind said his team had verified with MBPJ that the project developer had submitted the necessary applications and received the relevant approvals.

“I was told that MBPJ issued a stop-work order on the project after a meeting with Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Pua Pei Ling last week.

“The project developer and its consultants have been given two weeks to submit the reports and documents, inclu­ding slope strengthening measures,” he added.

Gobind, who is also Digital Minister, said a meeting would be called between the stakeholders to hear experts’ views on the report.

“An immediate short-term measure is to clean up the construction area and cover exposed portions of the hillslope.

“Another measure would be to build a drainage system to channel the water flow,” he said.

Gobind also said the developer complied with MBPJ’s stop-work order and has halted works.

Selama 27 tahun lamanya, Persatuan Kebajikan Sri Saradha Devi Illam Malaysia telah membela kebajikan anak-anak gadis yang kurang bernasib baik. Pelbagai cabaran telah dilalui, namun hasil kecekalan pihak pengurusan dan sokongan komuniti, rumah ini masih teguh berdiri sehingga ke hari ini.

Saya juga berbesar hati dapat menyumbang RM50,000 pada Januari lalu untuk menyokong kelangsungan operasi rumah kebajikan ini.

Malam semalam, saya bangga dapat meraikan anak-anak rumah kebajikan ini yang bergraduasi dari tiga bidang yang berbeza, iaitu pendidikan awal kanak-kanak, tarian klasik Bharatanatyam, dan seni bela diri Silambam.

Semoga mereka akan terus bersinar menjadi permata masyarakat serta mencipta lebih banyak kejayaan gemilang pada masa hadapan.

For the past 27 years, the Persatuan Kebajikan Sri Saradha Devi Illam Malaysia has been safeguarding the welfare of underprivileged girls. Many challenges have been faced along the way, but thanks to the perseverance of the management and the support of the community, this welfare home remains standing strong to this day.

I was also honored to contribute RM50,000 last January to support the continued operations of this welfare home.

Last night, I was proud to celebrate the children of this welfare home who graduated in three different fields: early childhood education, classical Bharatanatyam dance, and the martial art of Silambam.

May they continue to shine as gems of society and achieve even greater success in the future.

🔴 DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo says Malaysia should formally express its concern over fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho’s reported bid for a pardon in the US over his role in the 1MDB scandal.

Low is seeking a pardon in the US in relation to matters connected to the multi-billion-dollar 1MDB scandal, which triggered investigations in several countries.

Gobind said while he agrees with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim that the matter is for the US to decide, it is essential that Malaysia make its position clear that all those involved in the 1MDB scandal must face action.

“Malaysia has suffered immense, multi-generational losses because of the 1MDB scandal. We cannot, and must never, allow the architects of this crime and those who enabled it to walk free by bypassing the course of justice,” he said in a statement today.

“This is a case that captured global attention, involving transactions that extended beyond Malaysia’s borders. It required multilayered, cross-border investigations to piece the entire case together.

“For this reason, any action involving Low in the US must be viewed as an integral part of the broader process concerning the billions in losses incurred. These are losses that Malaysians will continue to bear for years to come.”

🗞 RTM: Malaysia perlu tegas bantah permohonan pengampunan Jho Low – Gobind

🔴 Malaysia perlu menyatakan kebimbangannya terhadap usaha ahli perniagaan dalam buruan, Low Taek Jho atau Jho Low, untuk mendapatkan pengampuna n berhubung kesalahan dikaitkan dengan skandal 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Pengerusi Kebangsaan DAP Gobind Singh Deo berkata, terdapat laporan bahawa Jho Low telah memohon pengampunan presiden daripada Amerika Syarikat.

Menurut beliau, walaupun keputusan itu adalah hak dan bidang kuasa Amerika Syarikat, Malaysia tetap perlu menyuarakan pendirian bahawa semua pihak yang terlibat dalam skandal 1MDB mesti dibawa ke muka pengadilan tanpa pengecualian.

“Malaysia telah mengalami kerugian besar yang memberi kesan merentasi generasi akibat skandal 1MDB. Malaysia tidak boleh dan tidak harus membenarkan dalang jenayah ini serta mereka yang membantu pelaksanaannya bebas tanpa melalui proses keadilan,” katanya dalam satu kenyataan hari ini.

Beliau turut mendesak supaya Jho Low dibawa pulang bagi menghadapi pertuduhan di negara ini.

“Saya akan membangkitkan perkara ini dalam mesyuarat Kabinet pada Rabu depan supaya ia dapat dibincangkan secara terperinci, dengan harapan satu keputusan dapat dibuat mengenai tindakan seterusnya."
