MASA General Manager, En. Mohd Helmi Zaharudin, recently shared insights at the MITBA Masterclass Series on Marine Insurance.

His session provided participants with a clear overview of the Malaysian shipping ecosystem, the growth of local tonnage, and how the industry is structured within a global maritime context.

From vessel operations to key risk exposures at sea and in port, the session helped bridge practical industry understanding with real-world underwriting and broking perspectives.

A meaningful platform to strengthen technical capability within the broking fraternity and deepen appreciation of how the maritime sector truly operates.

The Malaysia Shipowners’ Association (MASA) was represented by its Chairman and delegates at the ASA Shipping Dialogue 2026, held in Singapore on 22 April 2026.

The Dialogue, organised by the Asian Shipowners’ Association (ASA), brought together key industry leaders, policymakers, and maritime stakeholders across Asia to discuss critical developments shaping the future of shipping.

Under the theme “Asia in Action: Delivering on Shipping’s Shared Ambition”, the forum addressed pressing issues including geopolitical challenges, decarbonisation, evolving trade dynamics, and the need for resilient supply chains.

MASA’s Chairman attended the Dialogue in his capacity as Chairperson of the Federation of ASEAN Shipowners’ Associations (FASA), where he also delivered the closing remarks, underscoring the importance of regional unity and cooperation in addressing shared maritime challenges.

MASA’s participation reflects its continued commitment to staying at the forefront of regional maritime developments, while strengthening collaboration with industry partners across Asia. Insights gained from the Dialogue will support MASA’s ongoing efforts in advancing Malaysia’s maritime agenda and enhancing industry readiness in an increasingly complex global environment.

FASA Networking Golf 2026

Not your usual day on the green.

Set against the scenic backdrop of Sutera Harbour Golf & Country Club, this year’s FASA Networking Golf brought together golfers from the FASA and MASA Exco for a day that combined friendly competition with meaningful connection.

With the sea just alongside the course, the game unfolded in great spirits — equal parts focus, laughter, and camaraderie. It was a reminder that some of the best conversations don’t always happen in meeting rooms, but out on the fairway.

This event was made possible through the generous support of Eastport Marine Sdn Bhd, Jasa Marin (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., and TM Global Marine Sdn Bhd.

Winners of the day:
🏆 Champion: Atty Augusto Y. Arreza Jr
🥈 1st Runner-Up: Dario Roy Alampay Jr
🥉 2nd Runner-Up: Haji Awang b. Haji Ali
4th Place: Ainur Ilmy b Mohd Zanif
5th Place: Mohd Nasiruddin b. Abdul Razak

Congratulations to all winners, and thank you to everyone who took part and made the day both competitive and enjoyable.

A good game, great company, and a setting that made it all the more memorable.

On 10 April 2026, the FASA Networking Dinner was held aboard the North Borneo Cruise — bringing together the FASA Exco, MASA Exco, secretariats and members for an evening that blended connection, culture, and a touch of spontaneity.

Set against a striking sunset, the evening unfolded with live music, candid performances by FASA Exco members, and a memorable traditional dance session that saw everyone — quite literally — join in. It was a refreshing reminder that strong professional relationships are often built in moments like these.

MASA extends its sincere appreciation to Eastport Marine Sdn Bhd for their generous sponsorship in making this evening possible.

And to all FASA Exco members and guests — thank you for bringing the energy, the laughter, and the willingness to simply enjoy the moment together.

An evening well spent, and one that truly reflected the spirit of the community.
