🌱 Dola’s Story
Some people do not simply work for a company — they grow with it, help build it, and leave a positive impact wherever they go. Dola is one of those people.
Dola has been part of the LevasFlor family since August 5, 2008. He started as a forestry operator with a strong desire to learn, grow, and build a better future. And that is exactly what he has done every single day over the years.
Born in 1989 and originally from Marromeu, Dola is the father of five children — all currently attending school. For him, education is a legacy and one of the greatest ways to create a better future for his family.
When he joined LevasFlor, he had completed only the 8th grade. But he never gave up on his education. While working, he continued studying and successfully completed the 9th grade, proving that personal growth is also part of his journey.
With training and experience gained within the company, he grew professionally and is now a machine operator in the carpentry department — a field he learned from the ground up and where he became a trusted professional.
But Dola’s story goes beyond work.
At the age of 10, he attended a simple first aid session at school. That moment planted a passion that still guides him today: helping others. Today, Dola is an experienced first aider at LevasFlor, holding 8 certifications in first aid.
Outside the workplace, he continues making a difference in the community. He is active in the Environmental Club in the employees’ neighborhood, serves as an HSST agent, and is a member of the union — always ready to support, guide, and contribute.
Dola is more than an employee.
He is an example of dedication, growth, and positive impact — both inside and outside LevasFlor.

Moss
The green carpet of the forest
There is life where we least expect to find it.
On a fallen trunk, moss has quietly settled, transforming decomposing wood into a living work of art. This vibrant green carpet you see in the photograph is not just beautiful. It is essential.
Moss is one of the oldest plants on Earth, with more than 450 million years of existence. No roots, no flowers, no seeds — and yet, indispensable. It can absorb up to 20 times its weight in water, protects the soil, regulates the forest’s temperature, and creates the perfect environment for all life around it to thrive.
Finding such lush moss is a powerful sign that this forest is alive, balanced, and healthy.

Há vida onde menos esperamos encontrá-la.
Num tronco caído na floresta, o musgo instalou-se em silêncio, transformando a madeira em decomposição numa obra de arte viva. Este tapete verde-vivo que vês na fotografia não é apenas bonito. É essencial.
O musgo é uma das plantas mais antigas da Terra, com mais de 450 milhões de anos de existência. Sem raízes, sem flores, sem sementes — e ainda assim, indispensável. Absorve até 20 vezes o seu peso em água, protege o solo, regula a temperatura da floresta e cria o ambiente perfeito para que toda a vida à sua volta possa prosperar.
Encontrar musgo tão exuberante é um sinal poderoso que esta floresta está viva, equilibrada e saudável.

These words were not written in a laboratory, nor spoken from a university lecture hall. They came from a man who grew up inside the forest, who learned to read the river before he learned to read a page, and who watched his world be slowly taken apart in the name of progress.
His words carry a truth that the modern world has struggled to accept: that for hundreds of millions of indigenous people across the globe, the forest is not a backdrop to life. It is not timber, not carbon credits, not a tourist destination. It is home, medicine, food, culture, memory, and identity all at once.
When a forest is destroyed, it is not only trees that fall. Languages disappear. Ceremonies vanish. Knowledge accumulated over thousands of years about plants, animals, weather, healing is lost forever. An entire way of being human is erased.


Estas palavras não foram escritas num laboratório, nem ditas numa sala de aula universitária. Vieram de um homem que cresceu dentro da floresta, que aprendeu a ler o rio antes de aprender a ler uma página, e que viu o seu mundo ser lentamente destruído em nome do progresso.
As suas palavras carregam uma verdade que o mundo moderno tem dificuldade em aceitar: para centenas de milhões de povos indígenas em todo o planeta, a floresta não é apenas um cenário de vida. Não é madeira, nem créditos de carbono, nem um destino turístico. É lar, medicina, alimento, cultura, memória e identidade, tudo ao mesmo tempo.
Quando uma floresta é destruída, não são apenas as árvores que caem. Línguas desaparecem. Cerimónias deixam de existir. Conhecimentos acumulados ao longo de milhares de anos sobre plantas, animais, clima e cura perdem-se para sempre. Uma forma inteira de ser humano é apagada.

At LevasFlor, the forest inspires so much more than timber — it awakens talent, brings people together, and preserves our culture.
We held a special basketry and mat weaving workshop, where women, youth, and children from our community came together to learn, share, and create with their own hands. Using natural fibres, patience, and deep traditional knowledge, unique pieces were born — and even stronger bonds were formed.
There was training, hands-on practice, knowledge exchange… and of course, dancing and joy.
This is how we build a sustainable future: by valuing people, culture, and the resources that nature gives us.

Na LevasFlor, a floresta inspira muito mais do que madeira — ela desperta talento, une pessoas e preserva a nossa cultura.
Realizámos um encontro especial de cestaria e tecelagem de esteiras, onde mulheres, jovens e crianças da nossa comunidade se juntaram para aprender, partilhar e criar com as próprias mãos. Com fibras naturais, paciência e muito saber tradicional, nasceram peças únicas — e laços ainda mais fortes.
Houve formação, prática, troca de conhecimentos… e claro, também houve dança e alegria.
É assim que construímos um futuro sustentável: valorizando as pessoas, a cultura e os recursos que a natureza nos oferece.

The Mushroom “Flower”
It's not a flower. It's something even more fascinating.
It looks like a white flower, perfectly symmetrical, with thin petals radiating from the centre like rays of sunlight. But nature had a surprise in store.
What you see in this photograph, taken in the Miombo forest is a mushroom growing directly on the moss of the forest floor. Its perfect geometric beauty is no accident. The grooves that look like petals are actually gills — structures that release microscopic spores into the air, ensuring reproduction and the continuity of life.
This small mushroom is the visible tip of something immense and invisible. Beneath the moss where it grows, kilometres of fungal filaments stretch out, connecting the roots of the entire forest's trees — sharing nutrients, sending warning signals, sustaining life. Scientists call it the Wood Wide Web — the internet of the forest.


O Cogumelo "Flor"
Não é uma flor. É algo ainda mais fascinante.
Parece uma flor branca, perfeitamente simétrica, com pétalas finas irradiando do centro como os raios do sol. Mas a natureza tinha uma surpresa guardada.
O que vês nesta fotografia, tirada na floresta de Miombo - Levasflor, é um cogumelo a crescer directamente sobre o musgo do chão da floresta. A sua beleza geométrica perfeita não é acidente. As ranhuras que parecem pétalas são na verdade lamelas — estruturas que libertam esporos microscópicos para o ar, garantindo a reprodução e continuidade da vida.
Este pequeno cogumelo é a ponta visível de algo imenso e invisível. Debaixo do musgo onde cresce, estendem-se quilómetros de filamentos fúngicos que conectam as raízes das árvores da floresta inteira — partilhando nutrientes, enviando sinais de alerta, sustentando vida. Os cientistas chamam-lhe o Wood Wide Web — a internet da floresta.

For centuries, we saw trees as silent, solitary beings. But science has revealed something extraordinary: trees are deeply social. Beneath the forest floor lies a vast fungal network — known as the "Wood Wide Web" — whose filaments connect tree roots across great distances. Through this network, trees share sugars and minerals with struggling neighbours, with seedlings growing in the shade, and even with the stumps of fallen trees, keeping them alive for decades. The oldest and largest trees, known as "Mother Trees", act as hubs of this network, nurturing the young and weak around them. And when a tree comes under attack from insects, disease, or drought, it sends chemical warning signals through the network, preparing the entire forest to defend itself. The forest, in a very real sense, thinks and reacts together.

Durante séculos, vimos as árvores como seres solitários e silenciosos. Mas a ciência revelou algo extraordinário: as árvores são profundamente sociais. Sob o solo da floresta existe uma vasta rede de fungos — chamada "Wood Wide Web" — cujos filamentos ligam as raízes das árvores em grandes distâncias. Através desta rede, as árvores partilham açúcares e minerais com vizinhas em dificuldade, com mudas à sombra, e até com tocos de árvores caídas, mantendo-os vivos durante décadas. As árvores mais velhas e maiores, chamadas "Mother Trees", funcionam como hubs desta rede, nutrindo as mais jovens e fracas ao redor. E quando uma árvore é atacada por insetos, doenças ou seca, envia sinais químicos de alerta pela rede, preparando toda a floresta para se defender. A floresta, num sentido muito real, pensa e reage em conjunto.
