Kennedy challenged students at the University of Michigan to serve their country in the cause of peace by living and working in developing countries. Pictured here is JFK shaking hands with some of the first Peace Corps Volunteers. His vision set the stage for a global movement that continues today. Today, more than 240,000 Volunteers have served alongside communities in 144 countries—contributing to transformation and lasting impact around the world one interaction at a time.
