DAY OF THE NAMIBIAN CHILD COMMEMORATED AT MBALASINTE|| The Day of the Namibian Child was commemorated at Mbalasinte under the theme “Safe Homes, Safe Schools, Safe Communities: End Violence Against Children in Namibia.”
Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Woita Kapumburu, Regional Director in the Ministry of Health and Social Services, said the occasion provides an opportunity to reflect on Namibia’s progress in promoting children’s rights and addressing their needs.
He called on communities and regional leadership to strengthen child protection systems, raise awareness of children’s rights, support survivors of violence and promote safe environments for all children.
Kapumburu also reported that 33,349 malaria cases were recorded in the region during the week ending 20 September 2026, compared with 25,716 cases recorded during the same period last year.
Speaking on behalf of fellow learners, Noria Lubinda Head Girl of Kasika Combined School, called on government, parents, teachers and communities to create safer environments for children.
She emphasized the need for safe homes free from violence and neglect, safe schools free from bullying and abuse, and safe communities that protect children and reject child marriage and all forms of violence.
Lubinda also encouraged fellow learners to know their rights and responsibilities, study hard, stay away from drugs, respect their parents and teachers, and report violence or abuse.
The commemoration also served as a platform to strengthen efforts by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Children and its partners to end violence against children in Namibia, with a focus on prevention, early identification, reporting, referral, survivor-centred support and community accountability.
Every child deserves a safe home, a safe school and a safe community.
