Her Worship, the Mayor of Okahandja, Cllr. Ilena Mutumbulwa was honoured to be part of the J.G Van Der Wath Secondary School Prize Giving Ceremony, where she delivered an inspiring keynote address to the learners.
In her remarks, the Mayor encouraged learners to remain focused, resilient, and committed to their academic journeys despite daily challenges. She emphasized that “your circumstances do not define your destiny, your determination does.” The Mayor said.
The event celebrated not only academic excellence, but also the perseverance and hard work of all learners striving for a brighter future.

The Municipality of Okahandja Council, together with the residents of Okahandja, expresses its profound sorrow and deepest condolences following the tragic passing of Hon. James Uerikua and his beloved son.
We are deeply saddened by this devastating loss, which has not only robbed the nation of a dedicated leader and servant of the people, but has also taken a young life full of promise. Hon. Uerikua will be remembered for his commitment, leadership, and contribution to national development, while we also mourn alongside the family for the irreplaceable loss of his son.
During this time of immense grief, our thoughts and prayers are with the Uerikua family, relatives, friends, and all those affected by this tragedy. May you find strength and comfort in one another, and may their souls rest in eternal peace.

CURRENT SITUATION - KEEPING OKAHANDJA CLEA
On Friday, 19 December 2025, the Municipality of Okahandja undertook a cleaning exercise in the Oshetu Informal Settlement to clear identified dirt spots. This initiative followed an inspection tour conducted by the Council yesterday, during which several informal settlements were visited. During the tour, Council identified specific areas requiring immediate cleaning as part of ongoing efforts to maintain cleanliness and promote a healthy environment in Okahandja.
