The Office of the Governor is hosting the Kunene Regional Mining Summit 2026 in Opuwo at PWAKE, located behind Rani Group Wholesale. The summit brings together government representatives, Regional Councillors, Local Authority representatives, Traditional Authorities, regional leaders, miners, investors, conservancies, and local communities to discuss mineral development, land access, environmental responsibilities, and local economic development.

The event provides a platform for stakeholders to engage on opportunities and challenges within the mining sector and to promote sustainable resource management for the benefit of the region and its communities.

The Kunene Regional , Directorate of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture Festival 2026 was held from 1–3 October 2026 at Herbert Conradie Stadium in Khorixas. The festival celebrated Namibian cultural heritage, unity, and diversity through traditional dances, cultural exhibitions, indigenous foods, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and traditional games. The theme of the festival was “Preserving Our Cultural Heritage for Future Generations.” The event was so colorful, fruitful and interesting with different cultural groups of Great Kunene region.

The Africa Leadership Institute (ALI) requested various institutions in the Kunene Region, specifically from the Opuwo, Sesfontein, and Puros jurisdictions, to participate in the Major Team-Building and Culture Transformation Workshop held at Rock Lodge near Okahandja from 14–16 August 2026.

The workshop formed part of the six-month Opuwo, Puros, and Sesfontein Transformation Project, an evidence-based leadership and culture transformation programme designed to equip local authority leaders, officials, and key community stakeholders with the mindset, skills, and systems required to drive sustainable town-wide transformation.

The handing over of 24 commenced but not completed houses under the Mass Housing Development Programme at the Betonstein Construction Site in Opuwo, Kunene Region, took place on 06 August 2026 at 11h00 at the project site in Opuwo.

The keynote address was delivered by the Honourable Minister, James Sankwasa. The vote of thanks was presented by the Chairperson of the Management Committee of the Kunene Regional Council, Honourable Western Uakaisiua Muharukua.

The event marked an important milestone in the implementation of the Mass Housing Development Programme in the Kunene Region.
