The day will be observed under the theme is "Ensuring universal access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) for every child in Africa."

The Ovambanderu community today continued the 130th commemoration of Chief Kahimemua Nguvauva ā€œHiakungairiā€ in Okahandja by paying homage at his gravesite.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah together with First Gentleman Epaphras Denga Ndaitwah, Prime Minister Elia Ngurare, Minister of Urban and Rural Development James Sankwasa, Minister of Finance Erica Shafudah, Erongo Governor Nathalia /Goagoses, and Otjozondjupa Governor John Julius Khamuseb also joined the Ovambanderu community in the laying on of hands ceremony. The ceremony symbolises the invocation of blessings from ancestors.

During the ceremony, the tombstone of Acting Chief, Omutize Gerson Kunomundu Katjirua was also unveiled with President Nandi-Ndaitwah and Ovambanderu Chief, Ombara Tjozohongo II Nguvauva laying wreaths.

Okahandja-The 130th commemoration of the first Chief of the Ovambanderu, Ombara Kahimemua Nguvauva ā€œHiakungairiā€ commenced this morning in Okahandja.

Members of Ovambanderu visited the historic tree where the Chief was executed on the outskirts of Okahandja.

The current Chief of Ovambanderu, Ombara Eben Tjozonhongo II Nguvauva led members of the Ovambanderu community in kneeling beneath the tree to pay their respects and honour the memory of Hiakungairi.

The symbolic act served as a tribute to the fallen leader and his enduring legacy among the Ovambanderu people.
