● Emergency Medical Response

An elderly gentleman tripped over a loose mat at his place of residence, and when he experienced severe pain to his hip, the alarm was raised with our team.

A quick accessment by our attending medical team clearly indicated that the elderly gentleman sustained a significant injury to his leg (neck of femur fracture) and that on-scene paramedical intervention was required before undertaking any transportation. He was stabilized at the scene, adequately immobilized before he was transported to hospital for further assessment and management.

Some of the obvious markers identified:

● swelling
● deformity
● shortening of leg
● loss of function (can't put weight on leg)
● rotation of leg (positioning)
● pain increased significantly with movement
● guarding injured leg

An elderly lady heard a snap sound while turning her weight bearing leg. Initially, she only experienced some pain, but when complications set in, the alarm was raised. She required on-scene paramedical intervention before she was transported to hospital for further assessment and care.

Post-MVA bedridden patient with sepsis stabilized on scene.

The patient presented with severe septic bedsores and ....

● altered level of consciousness
● desaturating (low oxygen level)
● shallow labored breathing
● distal cyanosis
● pale
● sweating
● tachycardia (fast heart rate)
● dangerously low blood pressure
● poor perfusion
● dehydration (urine concentrated)
● decrease urinary output
● hypothermia (low body temperature)
● ECG abnormalities .... etc

The patient required immediate on-scene paramedical intervention before she was transported to hospital for further management and care.

An employee with an underlying medical condition collapsed in the workplace, and once again, co-workers raised the alarm.

She was evaluated and stabilized at the scene before she was transported to hospital for further assessment.

Note: It is always important to position the patient correctly post-collapse, and most of the time, only TLC is required to make a significant difference in the outcome.
