1st season of the MOVEMENT - International Dance Festival in Windhoek !

The first season of the Movement International Dance festival, held under the theme “Belong”, came to an end on Saturday at the National Theatre of Namibia, as the Oyo dance Troupe, guests and the South African Unmute dance company delivered powerful performances around the themes of inclusion and accessibility.

This evening concluded a five-day program, featuring a workshop for professional dancers and upcoming artists hosted by OYO and Unmute on June 9th, 10th and 11th, an outreach performance near Al Steenkamp Primary School in Katutura and a public conversation with the dancers on Friday June 12th at the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC). Funded by the Embassy of France to Namibia and co-managed by the OYO Dance Troupe and FNCC, MOVEMENT seeks to structure the Namibian dance sector in a professionnal and sustainable manner.

The MOVEMENT project was born from a shared vision to contribute to the development of the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI), which have been declared a national priority by the President of the Republic of Namibia, H.E. Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

MOVEMENT continues in August, from the 16 to the 20th, under the theme “Become”, shedding light on youth. It will feature a special three days-long seminar organized around the visit of the director of the Centre de Développement Chorégraphique National of La Réunion Island and a representative from the National Dance Center (CND) from Lyon, to develop a roadmap to strengthen and structure the dance sector in Namibia.

Paris conference for a two state solution

A year of concrete political and humanitarian action since the Paris Appeal of 13 June 2025.

As the situation in the Middle East deteriorates, the ceasefire in Gaza remains fragile. Settlement activity in the West Bank is accelerating. The outbreak of a wider regional conflict has diverted attention.

In the face of this, a lasting political solution to the conflict must be found.

France continues to work with its partners towards a vision of peace based on the two-state solution.

What an incredible evening we shared at the opening of Movement: International Dance Festival, a project aiming at sustainably structuring the dance sector in Namibia. It is funded by the Embassy of France to Namibia and co-managed by OYO and the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre.

This month’s performance is titled ✨BELONG✨: a celebration of difference and inclusion

Audiences experienced three powerful performances presented by Unmute Dance Company from South Africa, OYO, and guest performers, each exploring themes of identity and belonging. Together, these works celebrated our differences while highlighting and reminding us of the importance of inclusion, accessibility and community.

A highlight of the evening was the official premiere of Hear Me, a new work inspired by real-life experiences and created to ignite conversations around disability, acceptance, and the right of every person to be seen, heard and valued.

Thank you to our partners and most importantly to the artists and audience members who joined us.

The festival continues, and we look forward to welcoming you back for “Become” on 20 August and Beloved on 24 October.

Sustainable Wildlife Management programme: Launch of the Legal Hub 🌿

On the occasion of the launch of Legal hub Namibia on April 24, an initiative developed under the Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) Programme, let’s look back at what this meaningful programme is all about.

As one of the largest European Union-funded biodiversity programmes, the Sustainable Wildlife Management Programme has a clear ambition : to support the development of a network of community conservancies and community-based organizations that help manage community-owned land to ensure the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources for the benefit of local livelihoods.

In Namibia, this translates to concrete action :
🤝 13 communal conservancies,
🌳 16,000 km² covered,
👥️ and around 40,000 beneficiaries.

The Legal Hub Namibia will enhance access to legal information on wildlife governance, allowing for more informed and inclusive decision-making for all stakeholders.

Ms. Steffi Renaud from the Agence française de développement (AFD) was at the lauch. AFD is proud to contribute USD 3.85 million to the SWM programme in the region, including USD 1.35 million for Namibia, alongside the EU and all partners engaged in this collective effort.
