CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS | The Khomas Regional Council’s Windhoek West Constituency Office, under the leadership of Councillor Hon. Emma Tangi Muteka, facilitated a Cybersecurity Awareness Session for learners from various schools in Windhoek at the Kovambo Nujoma Hall on 13 June 2026. Recognising the growing importance of digital technologies in the lives of young people, Hon. Muteka championed the initiative to ensure that learners are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the digital space safely and responsibly. The awareness session was conducted by officials from the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) and Salt Essential IT.

Addressing the learners, MICT Executive Director Ms Linda Nakale highlighted the central role social media plays in modern society and encouraged young people to maintain a positive and responsible digital footprint.

She stressed that online actions can have lasting consequences and urged learners to be mindful of their digital presence. Ms Nakale also raised awareness about online safety, including the dangers of cybercrime, cyberstalking and other digital threats.

In addition to cybersecurity, learners received information on Namibia’s National Symbols, reinforcing patriotism, national pride and responsible digital citizenship among the country’s future leaders.

DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD |
On 16 June 2026, the Day of the African Child, the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Hon. Emma Theofelus, visited her former school, People’s Primary School, where she was warmly welcomed by learners with cheers and dancing before engaging with them and sharing words of encouragement.

As a former learner of the school and now a Minister, she reflected on her journey and encouraged learners to remain focused on their education, persevere through challenges, and believe in their potential.

Her visit served as a powerful reminder that with determination, hard work, and commitment to one's goals, great achievements are possible. By returning to the school where her own journey began, the Minister offered learners a glimpse of what they too can achieve through perseverance and self-belief.

The Day of the African Child honours the courage of the thousands of school children who participated in the 1976 Soweto Uprising in South Africa, protesting against unequal education under apartheid and advocating for the right to quality education for all children across Africa.
