This marks the official close of Madame Mbumba’s tenure as First Lady.

Soaring Together: Celebrating Women ✈️
Today, at the invitation of Ethiopian Airlines, First Lady Madame Sustjie Mbumba welcomed a special all-female-operated flight at Hosea Kutako Airport. The reception honoured the crew and celebrated women in Namibia on .
“Remember, empowered women empower the world. If we have strong women, we will have strong families, strong communities, strong workplaces and ultimately a strong world,” Madame Mbumba said in her message delivered at the airport.
Speaking on the aviation industry, Madame Mbumba highlighted its shift from being male-dominated to an increasingly popular path for women. She applauded all women pilots including her daughter, for their contributions.
The First Lady added, “Equality can only be achieved when the diversity, differences, and qualities of women are truly valued and celebrated.”
To conclude, Madame Mbumba urged women to live authentically and not conform to others’ idea of what womanhood is.

"As I transition from the helm of OAFLAD’s leadership, I do so with immense gratitude for your support over the past year,” Madame Sustjie Mbumba, outgoing OAFLAD President, delivered her final remarks at the Open Session of 's 29th General Assembly in Addis Ababa 🇪🇹
"Ours is a sisterhood that extends beyond our terms as First Ladies. It is a bond that we can, and must, use to influence the trajectory of our continent for the good of the people we serve," said Mrs. Mbumba during her opening remarks.
The First Lady introduced the new OAFLAD Leadership, showing her support for the incoming President and Vice President: "I have every confidence that you will bring fresh perspectives and steadfast dedication to guide us into an exciting and impactful future".
We were delighted to have our partners, including the African Union, Susan Thompson Buffet Foundation, UNAIDS, and UNFPA join us for the Open Session. Their support is instrumental in helping OAFLAD achieve its strategic objectives.
Madame Mbumba, together with all outgoing Steering Committee members, received Certificates of Appreciation for their commitment and contributions to during their two-year tenure.

This morning, African First Ladies convened at the African Union for the Closed Session of the 29th Organisation of African First Ladies for Development General Assembly. The session marked a key moment for , ushering in new leadership with the election of a new President and Steering Committee.
In her opening remarks, Madame Sustjie Mbumba, President of OAFLAD, thanked her fellow members for their work together during the short period of her Presidency. She also expressed her excitement for the organisation's new leadership that will serve for the next two years.
Madame Mbumba had the honour of announcing H.E. Mrs. Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone, as the new President and H.E. Dr. Ana Dias Lourenço, First Lady of Angola, as Vice President of for 2025-2027. Congratulations to them both, we wish them a successful and impactful tenure.

Technical Advisors from 20+ member states, including Dr Veronica Theron, have wrapped up their 2-day meeting, reviewing the strategic plan, assessing the next 5-year framework & finalising recommendations to the steering committee.

In celebration of Safer Internet Day, we had the honour of conducting a cybersecurity & online safety workshop at A Shipena Secondary School and Ella Du Plessis High School over the past two days, made possible through a partnership with Salt Essential I.T. & Ministry of Information and Communication Technology - Republic of Namibia.
The learners were guided through an empowering cybersecurity awareness programme, exploring essential topics such as cybersecurity strategy & structure, understanding cyber threats & vectors, as well as risks & effective mitigation strategies to ensure their safety online.💻

The 29th General Assembly of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) has kicked off in Addis Ababa🇪🇹
The Office of the First Lady is represented by Dr Veronica Theron, who will chair the Technical Advisors' meeting for the next two days, as they prepare recommendations for the steering committee.
21 member countries are expected to convene for the Technical Advisors' meeting, which will feature crucial discussions and lay the foundations for 's next two years.
