There is no additional charge for disposing of vehicles at the Waste Management Centre. Vehicles can be delivered to the WMC at any time during opening hours and should be dropped at the STEEL area.
Vehicles should NOT be dumped at any other location on site except for the Steel area. Please help us keep areas as segregated as possible by following this simple instruction.
Vehicles are crushed and stockpiled for eventual export for recycling.

Please note that vehicles should NOT be full of other unsorted rubbish. Vehicles containing excessive amounts of rubbish will not be accepted and may incur additional fees.
If dumping tyres separately to what are on the vehicle, please remove them from the rim and dispose of them in the appropriate areas.

The Re-use area at the recycling centre is a one-stop-shop for pre-loved clothes, games, school uniforms, crockery and more! Located just past the main drop-off point, the re-use area is a community friendly space that welcomes the give and take of quality, working items that might be loved by the next person.

A general rule to follow when using this space is *‘if you wouldn’t gift it, don’t give it’*. Meaning that if you wouldn’t gift that item to a friend knowing they might find value in it, please don’t give it to the re-use area. Take broken or unusable items to their designated areas at the residential, bulky, E-waste or builders drop-off areas.

Please come and check out the re-use area if you haven’t already and take home some treasures to be loved all over again!

Glass makes up a whole quarter of the community household rubbish we produce! So you can imagine that we make a whooooole lot of recycled glass sand!
Recycled glass sand is a sustainable alternative to other construction sands that have been imported or taken from our precious sand dunes.
We have a lot ready to go, and in different grades for a range of applications! Call into The Norfolk Wave for a look or contact Customer Care to purchase some.

$200/tonne (or divisions of that if you need less 🙂)

Over the coming weeks, operational information regarding The Norfolk Wave Recycling Centre and other waste management areas will be published on the NIRC page. If you want to stay up to date with what's happening at the centre, closures, updates and general information, be sure to head over and give the NIRC page a follow.

The Norfolk Wave pages (FB & Insta) will remain open and active and we look forward to sharing feel-good, grass-roots info about waste reduction, community initiatives, circular-economy principles and building resilient lives!
These pages will no longer represent the Recycling Centre and other waste management operations.

Shout-out to Mon at Topcroft hair salon for always being ahead of the game! As a big fan of waste minimisation and recycling, Mon has taken it upon herself to source and stock a fantastic range of powdered plant milks! Available also are shakers and storage bottles for your milk once you’ve mixed it up, all created from recycled plastic.

Powdered milks, whether nut, grain or cows milk, are a more sustainable alternative on Norfolk as you can do away with the TetraPak carton that we usually have to purchase in.

If you’re a nut-milk drinker, be sure to pop into TopCroft to check out the range of

Please take care when accessing the services in operation today.
Thanks for yorlyes patience and messages and calls of support!
And please, yorlye come on ….enough with the asbestos.
Any questions give Mandi a call on 55205.

The entire Norfolk Wave Waste Management Precinct has been closed due to further dumping this morning of builder’s waste, including more potential asbestos material, in the bulky steel area.
This is an incredibly disappointing development that will potentially result in the entire site being shut down for longer.
We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience that this has caused awas community.
We ask for yorlye’s support and patience please.
We do not accept asbestos at the Norfolk Wave Waste Precinct. If you have material that is potentially asbestos that requires disposal, please call customer care for information and instruction on 22001.
We are working with trained asbestos handlers again on Island to remove the material and will reopen the area as soon as it is safe to do so. Keep an eye out for updates on the Norfolk Wave and NIRC social media and listen to the local radio.
TO THE COMMUNITY - Please stop bringing material potentially containing asbestos to the Norfolk Wave Waste Precinct, this poses an unacceptable risk to the staff, the community, is very costly for council to rectify and results in much inconvenience for people wishing to use the facility.
For further information ring Mandi on 55205’

A site update on the Bulky and Builder's waste area is in order!
The B&B site was set up with big concrete bollards to allow for segregation of materials. Over time through use and weather the site has deteriorated to a state that has made it quite unusable, unsafe, and certainly no longer a place for high-quality recycling opportunities! Following the remediation work required after the discovery of potential asbestos material, it was decided that the site would benefit from a good facelift.
Contractors have been working hard to clean the site of any rubbish and remove the contaminated and disturbed soil in the bays. A large amount of clay-heavy soil was available to us from excavations at the airport and this is being used to backfill and heavily compact the bays and the access roads. The end result will be a much safer, cleaner and more organised area for the disposal and recycling opportunities of bulky and builder's materials.
Thanks orl yorlyi for your patience. The regular (and beautiful) rain has postponed the completion of the work, but we hope to have it finished shortly. Once the area is re-opened properly it will be manned at all times to help salan with their disposals and loads checked before access is granted. There will also be clear signage for segregation.

Miekduu is Norfolk’s very own repair centre! Operating out of a humble shed nestled amongst native forest, Miekduu embodies the essence of sustainability through repair and re-use!

The 'miekduu' attitude has helped Norfolk survive for generations, teaching salan to make gaskets from paper bags, machetes from leaf springs and never putting anything in the ‘too hard’ basket.

But now, in a world of mother boards, in-built fuses and planned obsolescence, many people are left scratching their heads, thinking that their one year old coffee machine must have given up the ghost! In reality, it probably just needs a new fuse!

Instead of throwing it out, get in contact with Miekduu! They specialise in fixing small appliances, furniture, and things that deserve a second chance. They also offer basic 3D printing to help replace missing or broken parts.

Find them on Facebook or Instagram, or flick them an email [email protected]
