The Norfolk Island National Park and Botanic Garden offers visitors the opportunity to see a range of native and endemic species in their natural habitat.

Norfolk Island National Park and Botanic Gardens covers approximately 655 hectares (14%) of Norfolk Island and includes Phillip Island, a smaller uninhabited island off the southern coast. The park and garden provide habitat and breeding areas for endemic, native and migratory species. They protect remnant areas of subtropical rainforest and viney hardwood forest which once covered much of the island.

🌺 Happy Bounty Day! 🌺

Wishing all Pitcairn descendants and the wider Norfolk Island community a very special 170th Bounty Day celebration – we hoep orl yorlye haw a wonderful dieh en iit swiit (we hope you all have a wonderful day and eat delicious food)! πŸ’›

Recently, our Junior Rangers took part in a special cultural experience, making a Niau broom alongside local cultural practitioners. They learnt about sustainable harvesting, cut fronds, stripped midribs, and carefully connected all 365 pieces to create their own broom – a beautiful skill passed down through generations.

Dem even sing along to Kath King’s β€œswippen aa raenda lorng f’ myse niau broom” 😊

Activities like this are so important, they keep culture alive, strengthen connections to tradition, and help the next generation stay connected to place and identity. When knowledge is shared and practised, it continues to live on.

πŸ’š Haw a wonderful Bounty Day, orl yorlye (everyone)!

Recent reef health surveys show Norfolk Island’s inshore reefs are continuing to experience environmental pressures affecting reef health and resilience.

Between September 2025 and February 2026, monitoring identified declining indicators of reef resilience within the KAVHA catchment of Norfolk Marine Park. πŸͺΈ

Severe rain and flooding events throughout 2025 and early 2026 increased land-based pollution and run-off into the marine park, exposing reefs to prolonged sedimentation, freshwater inflows and elevated nutrient levels. These impacts were followed by prolonged heat stress and coral bleaching. πŸŒ§οΈβ˜€οΈ

Ongoing monitoring helps Parks Australia and partners better understand changing reef conditions and inform future management and conservation priorities.
