Notice of Non-Participation in the Abia PDP Gubernatorial Primaries
The last couple of weeks has been tortuous as we battled hard to navigate our party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) away from a self destructive path.
The essence was to create an unfettered democratic space and a level playing field for all aspirants vying for all elective offices in the state, to participate equally in the primary elections.
That was not the case and of course what we are witnessing is a shambolic process driven by a procured court injunction.
To make matters worse, the use of only an imaginary 3-man Adhoc delegates to the exclusion of the party's statutory delegates in the primary elections to elect our candidates even when INEC the nation's electoral umpire, has unequivocally stated that no congress held in Abia State for that purpose, has no doubt put the party and her candidates in a quagmire.
The implication for our party is grave and as such has put all ongoing primary exercises on quick sand.
I am known for standing firm in defence of my convictions for the right of all people to a free and fair democratic process. That was why my campaign set sail on a democratic journey that took us to all the nooks and crannies of our dear state. We covered all the local governments and we could see the enthusiasm on the faces of our people who are desirous of change to a progressive government with a human face.
We committed human and material resources, preaching the "Rise Up Abia" message for the total emancipation of our State from the drudgery of imposition and godfatherism, which has seen the state at the lowest wrung of infrastructural, human and material development index among the states of the federation.
Our people were and are indeed fired up for a new lease of life that will be brought about by a people's government.
There was no doubt that Abians are tired of being subjected to being the butt of jokes and ridicle from their peers, particularly those from the contiguous states that were hitherto far behind Abia State in the development index in the time past.
That was the narrative we sought to change when the campaign took off.
Unfortunately, the ugly developments ignited by a rapacious ambition to maintain the wicked governance status quo of imposition and godfatherism have aborted this quest in PDP.
Accordingly, I Senator Enyinnaya Harcourt Abaribe will not be part of this charade.
I am therefore not participating in the exercise, which means that I will not be part of the PDP governorship primary election that holds in Abia State on Wednesday 25th of May, 2022 as doing so would have amounted to endorsement of an illegality that is already being challenged in the courts.
I therefore, ask all our people, our teeming supporters and Ndigbo to remain calm, keep the faith and wait for the new direction, which will be announced very soon.
What is important is that the campaign to liberate Abia State would surely assume a new dimension. The time is now.
Thank you for always being there for me and the campaign. Together we shall triumph.
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe

My attention has been drawn to a document signed by the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr Alwell Asiforo purporting the Abia State PDP has zoned the Governorship seat to Abia North and Abia Central and wish to assure all Abians who are desirous of an end to IMPOSITION in Abia State to disregard the purported zoning for the following reasons:
1. While any member of PDP has the right to support anybody for any elective position in Nigeria, it cannot be to the exclusion of any other member.
2. It is obvious that the statement was merely formulated to exclude me from the contest.
3. By virtue of section 42(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, no person or body can exclude Senator ENYINNAYA ABARIBE (Nma Agha Ndigbo) from contesting and winning the 2023 elections in Abia State.
3. All PDP members and Abia citizens are therefore urged to remain calm and participate in the forthcoming congresses and primaries where your voice will be heard as we dismantle the CABAL that want to keep Abians subjected to further years of IMPOSITION.
4. It is only Abians that will decide who will be their Governor in 2023.
Signed:
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe

TUESDAY IN RETRO
I MOVED A MOTION ON THE NEED TO
INTERVENE IN THE DIPLOMATIC ROW BETWEEN NIGERIA AND THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES.
Note that Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates(UAE) have had a positive diplomatic relationship and in 2009 the UAE established its embassy in Nigeria.
Further note that in December 2020 a memorandum of understanding was executed between Nigeria and the UAE to provide a platform for both countries to engage each other bilaterally.
Aware that in February 2021 the federal government of Nigeria stopped the UAE national carrier, emirates airline from subjecting Nigerian travellers to additional rapid antigen test as against its stipulated negative PCR test at the Lagos and Abuja airports before departure.
Further aware that Emirates airline then shut down flights to and from Nigeria owing to the disagreement between the airline and the aviation authorities on the propriety of subjecting passengers travelling from Nigeria to emergency COVID-19 protocols.
Concerned that after an interface between the authorities of the aviation ministry and Emirates airline , flights resumed but the Emirates airline continued to conduct test for passengers before departure from Nigeria, a development the federal government frowned at and thus suspended the airline from flying to and from Nigeria.
Further concerned that there are allegations that hundreds of legal resident Nigerians living in UAE are losing their jobs on account of the refusal of the authorities to renew their work permit which offends the letters of bilateral agreements which both nations are signatory to.
Worried that there are speculations that the refusal by the UAE authorities to renew work permit for Nigerians living in there is a Calculated attempt to pressure the Nigerian Government into accepting their conditions of service for their national airline that may have lost humongous revenue from the Nigeria route.
Further worried that if the Nigerian government does not urgently engage the authorities of the UAE , thousands of Nigerians living and working will lose their jobs and means of livelihood hence the need for a quick interface with the authorities of the UAE.
ACCORDINGLY RESOLVE TO
Mandates the Senate committees on Aviation,Foreign Affairs, Presidential Task Force(PTF) on Covid-19 and national security and intelligence and Interior(Immigration Service) respectively to interface with the ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aviation and National Intelligence Agency (NIA) on best ways of resolving this crisis and report back to the Senate within 2 weeks.

Last Week, I flagged off the 8th Edition of Made in Aba Trade Fair in Abuja. The fair facilitated by me started in 2013. It is meant to expose the ingenuity and entrepreneural gift of our people. Aside that, it is also to create the platform for business interaction with the policy makers at the national level and attract national and international patronage for made in Aba products. The way to go is to build and strengthen the SMEs and grow our economy. I was encouraged with the responses from various stakeholders, particularly the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), for the bond and strong partnership. We pray for your continued support as we work to sustain the program, This program attracts up to 150 exhibitors from Aba yearly. And they are fully sponsored.
