I extend my warmest congratulations to Hon. Mrs. Helen Nnenna Aduga, Executive Chairman of Izzi Local Government Area, on her well-deserved emergence as the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Ebonyi State.

This is a significant achievement and a worthy recognition of your experience, competence, dedication to public service, and commitment to grassroots development.

Your previous service in various leadership capacities within Izzi Local Government has afforded you a wealth of administrative experience and a clear understanding of the responsibilities of grassroots governance. Your elevation to this position therefore comes with great expectations, as you assume the responsibility of providing leadership and fostering greater cooperation among the Local Government Councils of Ebonyi State.

A HEARTFELT CONGRATULATIONS TO HON. MRS. HELEN NNENNA ADUGA.

Sincerely, I wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Hon. Mrs. Helen Nnenna Aduga on her successful swearing-in as the Executive Chairman of Izzi Local Government Area.

This is indeed a significant milestone and a new chapter of service to our people. Your wealth of experience, having served in various capacities within the local government administration, will undoubtedly be valuable as you take on this responsibility.

OJIJI IZHI: A JOURNEY BACK TO OUR ROOTS, CULTURE AND HERITAGE

Yesterday’s OJIJI IZHI, Izzi New Yam Festival was more than a celebration; it was a beautiful reminder of where we come from, the values we grew up with, and the traditions that have always brought our people together.

As I watched the celebrations yesterday, memories of my childhood in the village came rushing back.

I remember how, in those days, we would eagerly follow our parents to the farm in the evening before OJIJI. The excitement was so much that some of us could hardly sleep. We would stay awake, waiting impatiently for daybreak because we knew what was coming, new yam!

Very early in the morning, our mothers would prepare the new yam, with roasted pepper and agbo, while our fathers would be busy preparing the fowl for the celebration. Once the food was ready, we would eat with so much excitement that our stomachs almost wanted to burst!

After the meal, our mothers would prepare portions of food, and our brothers and sisters would take them around to share with our relatives, family friends and neighbours.

Then came another exciting part, we would take our bath, wear our beautiful new clothes, proudly put on our white leder, and move from one compound to another. Everywhere we went, there was laughter, food, friendship and love. We shared freely, ate together and celebrated together, without fear or favour.

Yesterday, seeing the young people of Izzi Nnodo Ekumaenyi moving from one place to another in their beautiful traditional attire, alongside our masquerades and cultural displays, brought back those precious memories.

It was truly a thing of joy.

It reminded me that our culture and tradition still have the power to unite us. In a world where people are becoming increasingly disconnected from their roots, occasions like OJIJI IZHI remind us that we have a history worth preserving and a heritage worth passing on.

Our children must know our stories. They must understand our traditions. They must experience the love, unity and communal spirit that made our villages what they were.

We must go back to our roots, not to live in the past, but to carry the best of our heritage into the future.

OJIJI IZHI is our culture.
OJIJI IZHI is our tradition.
OJIJI IZHI is our heritage.
OJIJI IZHI is our identity.

May the spirit of unity, love and communal living witnessed yesterday continue to live among the great people of Izzi Nnodo Ekumaenyi.

HAPPY NEW YAM FESTIVAL (OJIJI IZHI)TO THE GOOD PEOPLE OF IZZI NNODO EKUMAENYI.

Today, I join our people at home and in the diaspora to celebrate the richness of our heritage, the strength of our traditions, and the values that have kept the Izzi people united across generations.

The New Yam Festival is more than a celebration of the harvest; it is a time to honour our ancestors, appreciate the fruits of our labour, strengthen our bonds, and proudly preserve the culture and traditions that define who we are.

As we celebrate, let us remember that a people who forget their history, culture, tradition and origin are like a tree without roots. Our heritage is our identity, and it is our collective responsibility to preserve it and pass it on to the generations coming after us.

May this year's celebration bring abundant harvests, peace, prosperity, unity and renewed hope to every home across Izzi Nnodo Ekumaenyi.

I wish our fathers, mothers, youths and children a peaceful, colourful and memorable New Yam Festival.

A HUMBLING RECOGNITION OF SERVICE AND REPRESENTATION

Yesterday, 12th August 2026, I was deeply honoured to receive an Award of Excellence from the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ebonyi State Chapter, in recognition of my contributions, support, and effective representation as the Member Representing Izzi East Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly.

The award was presented to my Special Assistant (SA) Nwiboko Chidi Paschal (Optimist), who represented me at the grand finale of the 2026 International Youth Week Celebration, held at the NYCN Secretariat, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

I sincerely appreciate the leadership of NYCN, ably led by my brother and friend, Comr. Douglas Ochishi for finding my modest contributions worthy of this recognition.

For me, this award is not merely a plaque or an honour; it is a reminder of the responsibility entrusted to me by the people and a renewed call to continue serving with humility, dedication and purpose.

I dedicate this recognition to His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, whose administration continues to provide the leadership and direction that make meaningful representation possible.

I also dedicate this award to the good people of Izzi East Constituency, my friends, well-wishers, supporters and everyone across Ebonyi State who continues to believe in and encourage my service.

The honour is appreciated. The responsibility is greater. The service continues.

PLENARY UPDATE

A NEW LEGISLATIVE MILESTONE FOR EBONYI STATE

Today, I had the privilege of joining my distinguished colleagues at the hallowed chamber of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Nkaliki Road, Abakaliki, for another important legislative sitting where issues of direct relevance to the development, accountability and effective administration of our dear State were considered.

Among the major items on today's Order Paper were Items 6, 7 and 8, each carrying significant implications for the people of Ebonyi State.

1. REGULATION OF METAL & ELECTRICAL SCRAP SALES, HOUSE RENTS AND AGENCY FEES.

The House considered a Bill for a Law to regulate the sale of metal and electrical scraps, house rents and the collection of agency fees by professionals and non-professionals in Ebonyi State, as well as other matters connected thereto.

This is important because legislation must continuously respond to the realities faced by our people. Proper regulation in these areas can promote sanity in the scrap-metal business, protect property owners and tenants, bring greater transparency to agency transactions, and help prevent exploitation and sharp practices.

As lawmakers, our responsibility is to create a legal framework that protects the interests of citizens while promoting order, fairness and responsible business practices across the State.

2. AUDITOR-GENERAL'S REPORT.

The House also received and considered the Report of the Auditor-General on the Consolidated Financial Statements of the Government of Ebonyi State of Nigeria for the year ended 31st December 2025.

Accountability is at the heart of responsible governance. Public resources belong to the people, and there must always be appropriate mechanisms to ensure that government finances are properly accounted for and transparently managed.

The consideration of the Auditor-General's report demonstrates the importance the Legislature attaches to financial accountability, transparency and responsible stewardship of public resources.

3. SCREENING of AMASIRI DEVELOPMENT CENTRE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE.

Another important item before the House was the screening of the Co-ordinator and Management Committee members of Amasiri Development Centre in Afikpo Local Government Area.

Development Centres are important instruments for bringing governance and development closer to the grassroots. Ensuring that qualified and capable individuals are screened to serve in these positions is therefore essential to effective administration and grassroots development.

This process also reflects the Legislature's commitment to ensuring that individuals entrusted with public responsibilities are subjected to the necessary legislative scrutiny.

Our Commitment Remains Service

Today’s proceedings once again reminded me that representation goes beyond politics. It is about making decisions that affect the daily lives of our people, strengthening institutions, promoting accountability and creating an enabling environment for sustainable development.

As the Member Representing Izzi East Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, I remain committed to giving my constituents effective representation while contributing meaningfully to legislation that advances the collective interest of Ebonyi State.

The work continues. The mandate remains service.

May God continue to guide you as you stand beside and support the administration of our dear Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, in the service of our beloved Ebonyi State.

Her Excellency, please accept my warmest wishes and highest regards on this special occasion. May the years ahead be even more impactful, fulfilling, and rewarding.
