I, alongside my honourable colleagues in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, are fully represented at the 2026 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress held in Abuja.

It was a moment of unity, strategy, and renewed commitment to the progress of our party and the development of our people. I am proud to state that Izzi East are well represented, making our presence felt and our voices heard.

Together, we remain dedicated to strengthening our mandate, supporting party leadership, and delivering quality representation to our constituents.

PLENARY UPDATE

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has taken important steps to address key issues affecting security, environmental protection, and the democratic process in Ebonyi State.

During plenary, the House strongly condemned the gruesome killing of the Traditional Ruler of Ndufu Alike Autonomous Community in Ikwo Local Government Area, His Royal Highness Eze Francis Igwe. The Assembly described the incident as tragic and unacceptable, noting that traditional rulers remain custodians of culture and vital partners in maintaining peace and development in their communities.

Following deliberations on a motion moved by my honourable colleague, the Leader of the House, Kingsley Ikoro, the Assembly resolved that Local Government authorities should strengthen security for traditional rulers through community-based structures such as the Neighbourhood Watch and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The House also noted with concern that similar incidents have occurred in Ivo Local Government Area, Ezza North Local Government Area, Onicha Local Government Area, and Ohaozara Local Government Area, stressing that urgent action is required to protect traditional institutions and prevent further attacks.

In another development, the Assembly directed all mining companies operating within Ebonyi State to submit their Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Audit Reports to the House Committee on Solid Minerals. This step is aimed at ensuring that mining activities comply with environmental regulations and do not pose risks to host communities.

The House also approved the sum of ₦600 million as the budget estimate for the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission to commence preparations for the 2026 Local Government Council Election scheduled for August 2026. The funds will support procurement of election materials, voter education, logistics, and other operational requirements necessary for a credible election.

The Speaker of the House, Moses Ije Odunwa, emphasized the commitment of the Assembly to strengthening security, promoting environmental accountability, and ensuring transparent democratic processes across Ebonyi State.

These resolutions reflect the collective commitment of my honourable colleagues and I in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly to safeguarding lives, protecting communities, and advancing good governance in the state.
