2027: APC Disowns Hunye, Petitions IGP, DSS Over Alleged Impersonation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned Abayomi Hunye as its candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election and petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) over his alleged impersonation of the party’s governorship candidate.

The development comes amid an escalating dispute over the APC governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 election.

In a disclaimer dated August 24, 2026 and signed by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the APC said Hunye remained suspended and, therefore, lacked the authority to represent the party in any capacity.

The party identified Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its duly nominated governorship candidate, with Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as his running mate.

According to the APC, the names of Adeola and Abiodun had been submitted through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, with acknowledgment slips issued on August 7, 2026.

The party said Hunye’s suspension followed a petition by the Executive Committee of his ward, Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area, dated March 23, 2026, alleging “nefarious dealings” and “anti-party activities.”

The Ipokia Local Government Executive Committee subsequently ratified the suspension on March 27, 2026, while the Ogun State Working Committee approved the decision at a meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta on April 7, 2026.

The APC said the Ogun State Working Committee also formally notified the party’s national screening committee for governorship aspirants of the ratification on May 5, 2026.

The party warned individuals and organisations against conducting political activities with Hunye under the name of the APC, saying anyone who did so would be acting at their own risk.

It also cautioned media organisations against providing him platforms to present himself as the party’s governorship candidate, adding that its legal team had been directed to pursue contempt proceedings where applicable.

APC Petitions Police, DSS

In separate petitions dated August 24, 2026, the APC’s Director of Administration, Ayoola Peter Olajolo, approached the Inspector General of Police at Force Headquarters, Abuja, and the Director General of the DSS.

The party alleged that Hunye’s activities amounted to impersonation, conduct capable of causing a breach of the peace and violation of provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.

The APC requested that the security agencies invite Hunye for questioning, investigate the allegations and prosecute him if found culpable.

It also asked the agencies to restrain him from further presenting himself as the APC’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election.

The party said its petitions were received at the Police Force Headquarters on August 24, 2026, while the DSS acknowledged receipt of its petition at 6:39 p.m. the same day.

The APC further pledged the cooperation of its national and Ogun State structures with any investigation that may arise from the petitions.

APC IJEBO ODE: STRENGTHENING UNITY, RECONCILIATION AND GRASSROOTS MOBILISATION

We held a productive engagement with leaders, executives and critical stakeholders of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area, as part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen our party structure, promote unity and deepen cohesion among our members.

At the meeting, we directed the immediate establishment of a Reconciliation Committee, to be headed by Chief Olu Okuboyejo, with our former Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga, serving alongside state commissioners and other key stakeholders as members.

The committee will engage members who may still have concerns following the recent party primaries, listen to their views and work towards ensuring that every member feels heard, valued and carried along.

Importantly, the reconciliation process will also be extended to the ward level, recognising the critical role of our grassroots members in building a stronger and more united APC.

With 161 polling units across Ijebu-Ode, we emphasised the need for effective grassroots mobilisation, inclusiveness and unity as we continue preparations towards the 2027 General Elections.

Our strength lies in our unity.

We appreciate our leaders, executives and teeming members across Ijebu-Ode for their steadfast support, loyalty and commitment to the progressive family.

Gov. Abiodun, Senator Yayi Receive Over 20,000 PDP Defectors Into APC In Ogun West

With barely five months to the 2027 Governorship election, Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered another major setback as the party’s former state Chairman, Hon. Sikirullahi Ogundele led several others to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ogun West Senatorial district of the state.

Other notable politicians, who defected alongside Ogundele to the state chapter of APC included the former state Publicity Secretary, Akinloye Bankole, the former PDP Youths Leader in the state, Oyejide Sukanmi,, Omooba Segun Adewale, former local government chairmen under PDP, Hon. Titus Soji Eweje, Alhaji Kayode Adewale Sunmola. Jinadu Hammed, as well as the State Women Leader, Kemi Adeyemi, High Chief Adejobi, the Lisa of Imeko, former PDP Senatorial Candidate in Ogun West, Alhaji Ganiyu Dada Obanibashiri and ADC State legal adviser among others.

The detectors were received into the party by the trio of the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the APC governorship candidate for the state, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, as well as the state party Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi at a grand reception organised for them in Ilaro, headquarters of Yewa South Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, the former PDP Chairman, Ogundele declared that the party has since “collapsed" with the umbrella torn into pieces.

Ogundele likened the current state of the umbrella party to that of a burning house, declaring that no right-thinking person would remain inside a building engulfed by fire and allowed himself to be consumed by such a ragging fire.

He further disclosed that the mass movement of governors and other prominent politicians away from the PDP was evidence of the deep crisis within the party, stressing that it would amount to a political su***de should the party leadership like himself and others still stay in the party.

Commenting on the crisis surrounding the indigeneship status of the APC governorship candidate, Adeola, Ogundele described such allegations as a recurring feature that is so peculiar with the governorship contests in the Gateway State.

He urged party supporters to disregard claims questioning Adeola’s Ogun roots, arguing that similar allegations had been made against past governors of the state, begging from the Aremo Olusegun Osoba in 1999, to Otunba Gbenga Daniel in 2003 and Ibikunle Amosun in 2011, stressing that despite that, they all won the elections.

“They said Amosun is from Benin Republic, Daniel from Delta State, Osoba from Osogbo. Despite that, they all emerged as governors of the state. So, what is going on against Yayi now is an indication that he will also win".

He, however, urged party faithful to disregard the rumour of indigeneship against Adeola, popularly known as "Yayi".

Receiving the defectors, the State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi said the quality of PDP leaders that joined APC was an indication that, the oppositions are in tatters.

He called the opposition members to join APC at their ward levels and witness the development across the state.

While welcoming the new APC members from PDP, Prince Abiodun said it is heartwarming that they are joining the winning party at a time when elections are few months away stressing that they will reap bountifully from APC administration at state and federal level.

Also welcoming the former PDP chieftains and their followers, the APC governorship candidate, Senator Adeola call on them to mobilize and vote for APC in all the coming general elections stressing that theirs sacrifices will not be forgotten.

He called on members of APC to see them as brothers and sisters adding that their principled stand to forgo their position for his ambition is encouraging and will not be forgotten .

Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun - MFR Assents to Education, Skills Trust Fund Bill
.......Law provides fresh funding window for education, vocational training

By Timothy Odedina

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has assented to the State Education and Skills Trust Fund Bill, providing a new legal framework for sustainable financing of education and skills development across the state.

Abiodun signed the bill into law on Friday at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, following its passage by the Ogun State House of Assembly.

The legislation is expected to provide an additional funding window for the education sector beyond the state’s annual budgetary allocation, while supporting infrastructure development, bursaries, teacher support, maintenance and vocational training.

Speaking with journalists after the signing ceremony, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, said the new law was designed to strengthen the quality and effectiveness of education delivery in the state.

Elemide said the legislation followed extensive consultations with members of the public and relevant stakeholders, noting that its objective was to make education “more meaningful, more qualitative and more constructive.”

“We are just trying to make education more meaningful, more qualitative and more constructive. It will be more encompassing; that is what the bill is all about,” the Speaker said.

He expressed optimism that the effective implementation of the law would further strengthen the state’s education sector and sustain Ogun’s reputation as a major education destination in Nigeria.

Elemide, however, called for greater participation by the private sector in funding education, stressing that government alone could not shoulder the financial responsibilities required to effectively develop the sector.

“The private people too need to contribute. After all, they are the ones that will inherit these people after being educated,” he said.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, said the Trust Fund would cover both formal and informal education, with particular attention to skills acquisition and vocational development.

According to him, the fund would create an alternative source of financing for the sector, complementing the state’s normal budgetary allocation.

He listed school infrastructure, bursaries, teacher support and maintenance among areas that could benefit from the new funding mechanism.

“In other words, we have put in place a mechanism of ensuring that education can also still be funded through another source different from the normal budgetary allocation,” Arigbabu said.

The commissioner explained that the state had previously operated the initiative under an executive bill signed by the governor three years ago, adding that the passage of the legislation by the House of Assembly had now given the Trust Fund stronger legal backing.

Arigbabu further said the law would facilitate the integration of informal education into the state’s education system through the re-engineering of the traditional apprenticeship model.

He disclosed that over 9,000 youths had already received training in various vocational skills under the state’s skills-development initiatives.

The commissioner said the new Trust Fund would therefore provide additional support for expanding vocational education, apprenticeship programmes and other skills-development initiatives across Ogun State.

2027: Abiodun Inaugurates Ogun APC Campaign Council, Orders Immediate Grassroots Mobilisation

…Says victory requires scientific, deliberate preparation

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Thursday inaugurated the State Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general elections, charging members to immediately commence consultations, grassroots mobilisation and sustained engagement with voters across the state.

Abiodun, who is Chairman of the Campaign Council, said the inauguration marked the beginning of a new phase in the party’s preparations for the elections, directing members to translate the council’s organisational structure into effective action across the state’s 20 local government areas, 236 wards and polling units.

The governor charged the council to work for the success of all APC candidates, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, his running mate, Alhaja Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun, as well as the party’s candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Abeokuta, Abiodun directed members to hold their inaugural meeting immediately and commence consultations and campaign activities without delay.

“Let consultations and campaign now begin,” he declared.

The governor said elections were not won merely through political reputation or the size of rallies, but through “scientific, deliberate and intentional preparation, organisation, vigilance and sustained engagement with the electorate.”

He urged members of the campaign council to take the APC message to markets, farms, workplaces, religious communities, professional associations, neighbourhoods and homes, stressing that effective mobilisation must involve listening to the people and understanding their concerns.

“Our campaign must be based on ideas, achievements and a credible vision. We must reach every Local Government Area, ward, polling unit and community,” he said.

He called for unity and discipline within the party, saying the ability of the APC to manage competing interests during the processes that produced its candidates demonstrated the importance of putting the collective interest above individual considerations.

“Unity is not the absence of differences. It is the wisdom to ensure that our differences do not become greater than our common cause,” he said.

Abiodun said the campaign council brings together party leaders, strategists, professionals and grassroots organisers from across the three senatorial districts, with committees responsible for strategy, mobilisation, reconciliation, finance, security, media, youth and women engagement, welfare, transportation, digital communication, protocol, as well as traditional and religious affairs.

He cautioned members against treating their appointments as mere titles, saying membership of the council carried a responsibility requiring discipline, strategic thinking and humility.

“These appointments are not decorative titles. They are instruments of service and responsibility,” he said.

The governor charged the campaign organisation to effectively communicate the achievements of his administration in infrastructure, education, agriculture, healthcare, security, investment promotion and social intervention.

He noted that the Gateway International Airport remained central to the state’s vision of developing an integrated aviation, agriculture, industrial and logistics hub, while other interventions had contributed to improving the business environment and positioning Ogun as a leading industrial and investment destination.

“These are not abstract promises. They are visible on our roads, in our schools and hospitals, in our agricultural communities and in businesses expanding across our state,” Abiodun said.

He warned that achievements could be misunderstood if they were not properly communicated, urging the campaign council to counter misinformation with facts, humility and clarity.

“Good work that is not effectively explained may be misunderstood, while falsehood repeated without challenge may begin to appear credible,” he said.

The governor further directed the campaign organisation to operate as one coordinated political machinery, with leaders providing direction, committees translating strategy into action and grassroots structures sustaining engagement with voters.

He warned against factionalism, indiscipline and sabotage, stressing the need for proper reporting, early identification of challenges and prompt resolution of emerging issues.

The governorship candidate, Adeola, in keeping with the governor’s call for an inclusive grassroots campaign, urged party members across the state to regard the 2027 election as a collective responsibility and assured those whose names were not included in the campaign council that they remained part of the party’s mobilisation structure.

He stressed that the campaign council was established to provide coordination and direction, rather than to exclude other members of the party, urging all APC members to remain active in their wards and local government areas.

Adeola called for sustained consultations and grassroots engagement, urging party members to take the party’s message to communities and work collectively for all APC candidates, from the presidential election to the governorship and legislative contests.

He said the party would provide the necessary coordination and support to strengthen mobilisation across the state, while urging members to remain united and focused on the common objective.

Abiodun also charged APC members to maintain issue-based and civil communication throughout the campaign, rejecting insults, violence and intimidation.

“Political victory loses its value when purchased at the expense of peace, because leadership cannot build upon the ruins of a divided society,” he said.

The governor expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and partnership with Ogun State through the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also acknowledged the contributions of former governors Olusegun Osoba, Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun; former Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola; Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele; APC State Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi; Adeola; Adegunwa-Balogun; Director-General of the Campaign Council, Senator Lekan Mustapha; and other party leaders.

Earlier, former Ogun State Governor and APC National Leader, Chief Olusegun Osoba, urged members of the party to close ranks, present a united front and work collectively for the success of the APC in the 2027 elections.

Osoba appealed to aggrieved members to “shield their swords” and work for the party, assuring them that their contributions would not be in vain.

He urged party members to put the interests of the APC above personal grievances and ensure that the campaign council remained focused on its mandate.

Abiodun thereafter formally declared the campaign council inaugurated and charged members to commence work immediately towards the party’s objectives in the 2027 general elections.

“Let us speak with one voice, work with one purpose and march in one direction,” he said.
