*WDC OGUN STATE CHAIRMAN LEADS QUALITY ASSURANCE VISITS TO SIX PHCs IN EWEKORO, ADO-ODO/OTA*

The *Ward Development Committee (WDC), Ogun State Council,* has intensified its commitment to *improving Primary Health Care delivery through quality assurance visits* to *six Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) across Ewekoro and Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Areas.* on Thursday, 8 October 2026.

The visits, led by the *State Chairman, Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, JP,* focused on assessing facility conditions, reviewing service delivery, engaging health workers and WDC leadership, and strengthening community participation in Primary Health Care development.

The delegation comprised the *State Vice-Chairman, Hon. Kayode Ojumo; Special Assistant on Women Affairs, Mrs. Elizabeth Oluwabunmi; and IT/Public Health Officer, Miss Mubo Ola.*

*FACILITIES VISITED*
The delegation visited the following facilities:

1. *Papalanto Health Centre, Ewekoro LG:* The team was received by the WDC Chairman, Chief Fafunwa Onikoyi Onibiyo, executive members, the Officer-in-Charge (OIC), health workers, and a representative of the Onipapa of Papalanto, HRM Oba Rasak Jimoh Famuyiwa (Ilufemiloye I).

2. *Ilogbo Health Centre, Ado-Odo/Ota LG:* The delegation was received by the WDC Chairman, Chief E.O. Ojedele, executive members, Mrs. Ogunlade F.T. (OIC), health workers, and a representative of the Kabiyesi of Ilogbo Land.

3. *Ota 2 Etere Aromokala Health Centre, Etere, Ilogbo Road, Ota:* The team was welcomed by the WDC Chairman, Elder Oke Taiwo, executive members, Mrs. Fabiyi O.B. (OIC), health workers, and Chief Olaitan Wasiu, Baale of Etere.

4. *Sango Health Centre, Ado-Odo/Ota LG:* The delegation was received by the WDC Chairman, Mr. Babatunde Owolewa, executive members, Matron Osho Temitope (OIC), health workers, and representatives of the Area Community Development Committee (ACDC) and the Supervisory Councillor.

5. *Ijoko Health Centre, Ado-Odo/Ota LG:* The team was received by the WDC Chairman, Alhaji Nurudeen Oliyide, executive members, Mrs. Odujinrin Folake (OIC), and facility health workers.

6. *Agoro Health Centre, Agoro Town, Ado-Odo/Ota LG:* The delegation was welcomed by the WDC Chairman, Elder Sunday Abolarinwa, executive members, the OIC, health workers, representatives of the Baale of Agoro Township and Agoro Area CDC, as well as community women leaders.

*STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION IN PHC DELIVERY*
At each facility, the visits provided an opportunity for direct engagement with WDC leaders, health personnel, and community representatives on issues relating to Primary Health Care delivery and facility development.

The warm reception extended to the State Chairman and his team reflected the importance of collaboration among WDC leadership, healthcare workers, traditional institutions, and community stakeholders in supporting functional and responsive PHC facilities.

The visits further underscored the *WDC Ogun State Council’s* commitment to monitoring healthcare facilities, strengthening local partnerships, and encouraging community ownership of Primary Health Care services.

The Council recognises that improving healthcare delivery requires regular engagement, shared responsibility, and sustained cooperation among all stakeholders.

*TECHNICAL* *REPORT* *ON* *OGUN* *EAST* *WDC* – *OICs* *ENGAGEMENT* *MEETING*

1.0

The State Chairman, Ward Development Committee (WDC), Ogun State Council, Alh. Asiwaju Dapo Wahab JP, accompanied by members of the State Executive Leadership, attended the Ijebu East WDC–Officer-in-Charge (OICs) Engagement Meeting held on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, at the Ijebu East Local Government Health Authority, Ijebu-Imushin, Ogun State.

The engagement formed part of the State WDC's ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration, communication, accountability, and partnership between WDC members and health facility Officer-in-Charge (OICs) at the grassroots level.

2.0 *Purpose* *and* *Objectives* *of* *the* *Engagement*

The meeting was convened to:

1. Sustain the cordial working relationship between WDC members and OICs across the eleven wards of Ijebu East Local Government Area.
2. Strengthen communication and collaboration between community structures and the health system.
3. Identify operational gaps affecting effective community participation in primary healthcare delivery.
4. Promote community ownership and support for healthcare facilities.
5. Recognise achievements recorded by the Local Government Health Authority and identify areas requiring further community support.
6. Reinforce the role of WDCs as a bridge between communities and healthcare providers.
7. Encourage continuous collaboration between the WDC leadership, health workers, Local Government authorities, and other relevant stakeholders.

3.1 *Address* *by* *the* *WDC* *State* *Chairman*

In his address, the State Chairman, Alh. Asiwaju Dapo Wahab JP, appreciated the entire health workforce of Ijebu East Local Government for their commitment and dedication to improving healthcare delivery in the area.

He particularly commended the *Health* *Secretary* , *Dr* . *Fayomi* *Omotola* , for his transformational leadership and for fostering a productive relationship between the WDCs and OICs. According to the State Chairman, the cordial relationship has contributed significantly to improved community participation and the strengthening of health facilities across the eleven wards.

The State Chairman also appreciated *the* *Executive* *Chairman* *of* *Ijebu* *East Local Government, Dr Oluwadare* *Kehinde* ( A. K.A Hacco) ably represented at the meeting by the Supervisory Councillor for Health, Alh. Hon. Lawal Adekunle, for the Council's support towards WDC activities and its contribution to the development and improvement of primary healthcare facilities within the Local Government Area.

He encouraged the Local Government leadership to sustain and expand its support for the health sector, particularly through continued investment in the improvement of health facilities and collaboration with community development structures.

3.2 *Presentation* *by* *the* *Ijebu* *East* *Local* *Government* *Health* *Authority*

The Ijebu East Local Government Health Secretary, Dr. Fayomi Omotola presented an overview of the achievements recorded by the Local Government Health Authority.

He highlighted the progress made in the delivery and strengthening of primary healthcare services while also identifying some existing gaps requiring greater attention. Among the key areas identified were:

- Trust-building between stakeholders;
- Effective communication;
- Improved coordination between WDC members and health facility personnel;
- Sustained community participation; and
- Continued support for health facility development and maintenance.

Dr. Fayomi Omotola expressed appreciation to the State WDC leadership, led by Alh. Asiwaju Dapo Wahab JP, for its commitment to the development of WDC structures and health facilities in Ijebu East.

He noted that the State Chairman's visit demonstrated the importance attached to grassroots healthcare development and assured the meeting that the Local Government Health Authority would continue to collaborate with WDCs.

The State Chairman of the Ward Development Committee (WDC), Ogun State Council, Alh. Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, JP, paid a strategic monitoring and support visit to Igosun Health Centre, Oke Ago Owu, Abeokuta, on 5 September 2026.

The visit was undertaken as part of the WDC's commitment to strengthening community participation, identifying service-delivery gaps at Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities, and facilitating appropriate remedial interventions in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

The strategic visit was undertaken to:

1. Assess the general operational situation of the health centre.
2. Review previously identified gaps affecting effective service delivery.
3. Assess the status of remedial actions initiated to address identified gaps.
4. Strengthen collaboration between the health facility management and the WDC.
5. Obtain feedback from the facility leadership on emerging needs and challenges.
6. Identify areas requiring further community and stakeholder intervention.

During the visit, the State Chairman held discussions with the leadership and representatives of the health facility and the WDC.

The engagement provided an opportunity to review issues affecting the effective functioning of the facility and to discuss practical measures for addressing identified gaps.

The WDC Chairman for Igosun Health Centre, Pastor Sola Makinde, expressed appreciation to the State Chairman for his sustained support and commitment to improving healthcare delivery at the grassroots.

He particularly commended the State Chairman for the prompt remedial action taken to address previously identified gaps at the health facility. He noted that the timely intervention demonstrated the importance of effective WDC leadership and responsive stakeholder engagement in strengthening PHC service delivery.

The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the health centre,Mrs .Morafa A O, also expressed appreciation for the visit and the continued support of the WDC state council.

The strategic visit to Igosun Health Centre reaffirmed the commitment of the WDC Ogun State Council to strengthening grassroots healthcare delivery through monitoring, advocacy, community participation and responsive stakeholder engagement.

*WDC OGUN STATE COUNCIL SENSITIZES COMMUNITIES ON DIPHTHERIA PREVENTION*

_WDC Members Must Bridge the Gap Between Communities and Healthcare System_ - Asiwaju Dapo

The *Ward Development Committee (WDC), Ogun State Council,* in collaboration with the *Odeda Local Government Health Authority, today, 30th September 2026,* organized a *community-based sensitization campaign* on the *prevention and control of Diphtheria infection.*

The sensitization was held during the monthly meeting of the *Odeda Zonal Community Development Committee (CDC),* which brought together representatives of communities across *Odeda Local Government.*

The *delegation from the Odeda Local Government Health Authority, led by the Deputy Director/Health Education Officer,* sensitized community leaders and members on the causes, prevention, early recognition, and importance of seeking prompt medical attention for Diphtheria.

The team also encouraged residents to take advantage of the ongoing Diphtheria vaccination exercise by visiting their nearest health facilities and ensuring that eligible members of their families and communities are vaccinated.

Speaking during the programme, the *State chairman ,WDC Ogun state council, Asiwaju Dapo Wahab* emphasized the important role of community structures in disease prevention and health promotion. As community leaders and WDC members, we must continue to serve as the bridge between our people and the healthcare system by ensuring that vital health information reaches every household.

In a major step toward expanding affordable healthcare coverage, the *Ogun State Ward Development Committee (WDC)* on, *September 29, 2026* inaugurated its newly appointed *Health Insurance Enrolment and Patient-Centered Feedback Ambassadors.*

Representing the *Ogun State Health Insurance Agency (OGSHIA), Mr. Gbadamosi Adebayo, Head of ICT,* performed the *official inauguration* at the *SS Peter and Paul Cathedral Hall, Isale Ake, near Adatan Junction, Abeokuta.*

Delivering the keynote address, *Mr. Adebayo* emphasized the preventive financial cushion that health insurance provides. *_"The idea of health insurance is paying in advance because you may need hospital care, rather than facing heavy expenses only when you fall ill," he explained._*

Addressing the newly inaugurated ambassadors, the *State Chairman of the Ward Development Committee (WDC) Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, JP* offered words of advice and issued a direct call to action, setting clear expectations for field performance and facility monitoring.

"Our primary goal is to ensure that the huge investments made by the *Ogun State Government into Primary Health Care (PHC) development* yield direct, measurable benefits for our communities," the WDC State Chairman stated. "As ambassadors, you are the crucial bridge between our people and the healthcare system. Your success will be measured by clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including active monthly enrollment figures, accurate patient feedback collection, and the resolution rate of service complaints at our primary health centers."

The newly inaugurated ambassadors were *chosen from all 20 local government areas of Ogun State* and will drive grassroots mobilization, boost health insurance enrollment across wards, and collect direct patient feedback to improve healthcare service delivery throughout Ogun State.

WDC , Health Workers Must See Themselves as Partners in Progress — _WDC_ _Chairman_

The State Chairman of the Ward Development Committee (WDC), Ogun State Council, Alh. Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, JP, has called on Ward Development Committees and health workers across the state to see themselves as partners in progress in the collective effort to improve healthcare delivery and health outcomes at the grassroots.

Asiwaju Wahab made the call on Thursday, 24 September 2026, while speaking at a one-day training on Demand Generation for Reproductive , Maternal , Newborn , Child , Adolescent and Elderly Health (RMNCAEH) , organized by the Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board (OGSPHCDB) in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) .

The training, held at the Odeda Local Government Health Authority, brought together WDC representatives, community mobilizers and Officers-in-Charge (OICs) of primary healthcare facilities.

The WDC Chairman emphasized that effective primary healthcare delivery requires a strong partnership between health workers and the communities they serve. He noted that WDCs, as community-based structures, have an important role to play in mobilizing residents, generating demand for essential health services, addressing barriers to healthcare utilization, and strengthening community ownership of primary healthcare facilities.

The training was aimed at strengthening demand-generation activities across primary healthcare facilities within Odeda Local Government, while equipping community mobilizers with the requisite knowledge and practical skills to effectively utilize the newly developed demand-generation flip charts as a tool for community sensitization, education and mobilization.

The initiative is expected to enhance the capacity of community mobilizers and health workers to communicate key health messages effectively and encourage increased utilization of essential services covering reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, adolescent and elderly health.

Asiwaju Wahab further reaffirmed the commitment of the WDC Ogun State Council to working closely with government agencies, health workers, development partners and communities to ensure that health information reaches the grassroots and translates into positive health-seeking behaviours.

“ WDCs and health workers must see ourselves as partners in progress . When we work together , we can bridge the gap between the availability of healthcare services and their effective utilization by our communities ,” he stated.

*WDC Ogun State Strengthens Primary Healthcare Through Stakeholders' Engagement in Abeokuta South*

*The Ward Development Committee (WDC) Ogun State Council on Wednesday, 23rd September 2026, held its monthly State Council Meeting at the Abeokuta South Local Government Secretariat, Abeokuta, Ogun State, bringing together WDC leaders, government officials, health-sector stakeholders, and community representatives to deliberate on issues affecting Primary Health Care and community participation across the state.*

The meeting, hosted by the *WDC Abeokuta South Local Government Chapter,* was held at the *Local Government Conference Room.* It featured a series of addresses and health-sector engagements aimed at strengthening collaboration among Ward Development Committees, government institutions, and other stakeholders in the development of Primary Health Care services.

The meeting featured the participation of key stakeholders, including *WHO Representative, Dr. Adedayo Adenrele; National Orientation Agency (NOA) Representative, Mrs. Ogundimu Olutoyin; State Chairman, Forum of Health Educators in Ogun State, Mallam Yusuf M. O.; and the Food Scientific Officer, Abeokuta South Local Government.* Their contributions focused on strengthening health education, community orientation, stakeholder collaboration, and sustainable Primary Health Care development across Ogun State.

A keynote address was delivered by the *Abeokuta South Local Government Health Secretary, Dr. Oladipupo Afonja,* followed by addresses from representatives of key health institutions, including the *Ogun State Health Insurance Agency (OGSHIA), Dr. Dosunmu Afolabi,* and the *Acting Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Esther Ogunsile.*

The *Abeokuta South Local Government Health Educator, Dr. A. Bankole,* also provided health information during the meeting, while the *Ogun State Coordinator of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Folarin Solape,* addressed participants on matters relating to Primary Health Care development and community participation.

A major part of the meeting was the address by the *WDC Ogun State Council Chairman, Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, JP.* He appreciated the leadership of WDC Abeokuta South and the *Executive Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government* for hosting the month's meeting.

Following the address, *Merit Awards* of Excellence were presented in recognition of individuals who have supported and contributed to the development of Abeokuta South and the activities of the WDC Ogun State Council.

The following individuals were presented with awards:
1. Dr. Afonja Oladipupo: Health Secretary, Abeokuta South Local Government.
2. Dr. A. Bankole: Director of Health Education and Promotion, Abeokuta South.
3. Alhaji (Chief) Asiwaju Dapo Wahab: Chairman, WDC Ogun State Council.
4. Hon. Balogun Afeez: Executive Chairman, Abeokuta South Local Government.

Key matters recorded during the engagement included the Health Promotion Campaign, Health Insurance enrolment, and the Ogun State Primary Health Centre Community Scorecard

The meeting provided an opportunity for the WDC Ogun State Council to review its activities, engage relevant health stakeholders, and deliberate on issues concerning community participation and Primary Health Care development across Ogun State.

The Ward Development Committee Ogun State Council continues to emphasize collaboration among WDC structures, government agencies, health institutions, and communities in supporting effective Primary Health Care delivery across Ogun State.
