PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE ABIA STATE COMMAND CP DANLADI ISA: HELD ON THURSDAY 2/04/2026 AT THE COMMAND HEADQUARTERS UMUAHIA
1. Greetings, esteemed members of the media. I extend a warm welcome to you all to this press conference. In compliance with the directive of the 23rd Indigenous Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, on the presentation of welfare cheques to the families of deceased police personnel in the Federation and in the spirit of the celebration of the National Police Day.
2. The Abia State Police Command presents Eleven (11) Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare cheques, totaling Eleven million, nine hundred and sixty thousand, two hundred and four naira, eighty-eight kobo (₦11,960,204.88) only, which will be given to the families of our fallen officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.
3. Following the presentation, I will update the public on the Command’s continuous efforts in combating crime and fostering a secure environment conducive to socio-economic growth in the State.
4. From January 2026 till date, the Command has recorded a total of 142 cases of various criminal offences, leading to the arrest of 226 suspects. Several of these cases have been thoroughly investigated, charged to court, and are currently undergoing prosecution, with suspects remanded in correctional centres.
5. Furthermore, the Command has recorded significant operational successes in the fight against cultism and related crimes. A total of 13 cult-related cases have been investigated, 23 suspects arrested, arraigned d in court and remanded in correctional custody and 32 arms recovered during these operations. Currently, five cult-related cases are also under interrogation. These efforts are part of the Command’s zero-tolerance for cultism and its commitment to sustaining relative peace and security across the state.
6. Through sustained intelligence-led operations and proactive policing strategies, the Command has rescued several trafficked/stolen children, recovered 46 fi****ms of various specifications, 16 rounds of ammunition/cartridges, and dismantled criminal networks operating within the State.
7. These sustained operational efforts have contributed significantly to the reduction of crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, defilement and r**e, child trafficking, unlawful possession of fi****ms, stealing, burglary, assault occasioning harm, malicious damage, advance fee fraud, among others.
8. Additionally, the Command has recovered stolen vehicles, auto-rickshaws (tricycles), and motorcycles, rescued kidnapped victims and recovered bags containing substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa (Indian h**p) and other illicit hard drugs.

The Abia state Police Command, in the spirit of the National Police Day, and in line with the vision of the Inspector-General Of Police, in ensuring proactive policing and community partnership in building trust, the Command reiterates it's commitment in ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across the state.
Recognizing that security is a collective responsibility, the Command encourages members of the public to collaborate in sustaining relative peace and security in the state by reporting any suspicious activity or security concerns to the nearest Police Station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
