A computer is a programmable device that
stores, retrieves, and processes data .
The term
"computer" was originally given to humans
( human computers ) who performed numerical
calculations using mechanical calculators, such
as the abacus and slide rule . The term was later
given to mechanical devices as they began
replacing human computers.
Today's computers
are electronic devices that accept data (input ),
process that data, produce output , and store ( storage) the results ( IPOS ).
~A network is a collection of computers, servers,
mainframes, network devices, peripherals, or other
devices connected to allow data sharing. Murphy, (2015).
A network is a collection of computers, servers,
mainframes, network devices, peripherals, or other devices connected to allow data sharing.
An example of a network is the Internet , which
connects millions of people all over the world.
The Cambridge dictionary defined internet as "the large system of connected computers around the world that allows people to share information
and communicate with each other."
According to wikipedia, "The Internet (or internet ) is the global system of interconnected computer networks that uses the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to communicate between networks and devices.
It is a network of networks that consists of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope, linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies.
The Internet is a global wide area network that connects
computer systems across the world. It includes several
high-bandwidth data lines that comprise the Internet
"backbone." These lines are connected to major Internet
hubs that distribute data to other locations, such as web servers and ISPs.
In order to connect to the Internet, you must have
access to an Internet service provider (ISP), which acts
the middleman between you and the Internet. Most ISPs offer broadband Internet access via a cable, DSL, or fiber connection.
When you connect to the Internet using a public Wi-Fi signal, the Wi-Fi router is still
connected to an ISP that provides Internet access.
Even cellular data towers must connect to an Internet service
provider to provide connected devices with access to the Internet.
The Internet provides different online services. Some
examples include:
~Web โ a collection of billions of webpages that
you can view with a web browser
~Email โ the most common method of sending and receiving messages online
~Social media โ websites and apps that allow people to share comments, photos, and videos
~Online gaming โ games that allow people to play with and against each other over the Internet
~Software updates โ operating system and application updates can typically downloaded from the Internet.
In the early days of the Internet, most people connected to the Internet using a home computer and a dial-up modem. DSL and cable modems eventually provided users with "always-on" connections. Now mobile
devices, such as tablets and smartphones, make it
possible for people to be connected to the Internet at
all times.
The Internet of Things (IoT) has turned common appliances and home systems into "smart" devices that can be monitored and controlled over the Internet.
As the Internet continues to grow and evolve, you can
expect it to become an even more integral part of daily

The Internet - which was started in 1960s as a means for government researchers to share information; has evolved in phases over decades.
Today the Internet has sophisticated to what we now regard as "the cybernation" which brought about the digital age
Although the Internet has various benefits and is considered one of the most powerful creations of mankind, it also contains many
disadvantages.
Some of the disadvantages of internet are highlighted below:
~Addiction, time-waster, and causes distractions
~Bullying, trolls, stalkers, and crime
~Spam and advertising
~Pornographic and violent images
~Never being able to disconnect from work
~Identity theft, hacking, viruses, and cheating
~Affects focus and patience
~Health issues and obesity
~Depression, loneliness, and social isolation
~Buying things that you don't need
~Not a safe place for children
~Viruses/Malwares
However the down sides of the Internet can not be over emphasized as the enamours benefits overshadow the effects
The Internet equally have enamours benefits such as:
~Connectivity, communication, and shar.
~Information, knowledge, and learning
~Address, mapping, and contact information
~Selling and making money
~Banking, bills, and shopping
~Entertainment
~Remote work environment
~ Job creation among many other benefits.
In conclusion; the benefits of Internet can only be utilize by exploring its services as a users and not as abusers
Happy Word Internet Day from all of us...
