THEY THOUGHT THEY CAUGHT A BIG FISH. THEY DIDN’T KNOW THEY HAD CAUGHT A CREATURE THAT NEEDED THEIR HELP. 🐢🌊
In Okun-Igando, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, a simple fishing activity turned into a powerful lesson about protecting nature.
A fish farmer discovered that his net had trapped an unusual sea creature. At first, there was excitement among the fishermen because they believed they had caught something valuable.
But when they realized it was a sea turtle, the focus changed from what they could gain to what they could save.
The intervention of the Baale of Okun-Igando, Hon. (Chief) Semiu Waliu Jejelaiye, made the difference.
The traditional leader appealed to the fishermen to release the turtle, reminding them that rare marine creatures like this play an important role in maintaining the balance of the ocean ecosystem.
Listening to the advice of their Baale, the fishermen and residents carefully rescued the sea turtle and returned it safely to the Atlantic Ocean.
In a world where many endangered animals face threats from human activities, this small act from a Lagos community carries a big message:
Protecting nature begins with ordinary people making the right choices.
Okun-Igando residents have shown that humanity is not only measured by how we treat one another, but also by how we treat the environment we all share. 🌎💙🇳🇬
A community that saves a creature from the sea has reminded us that conservation starts from home.
