As Nigeria works to expand electricity access, strengthen energy security and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, renewable energy—particularly solar—will be critical to building the country’s next generation of energy infrastructure.
In furtherance of his working visit to China, the Honourable Minister of State for Regional Development, H.E. Uba Maigari Ahmadu, today, 2nd September 2026, led his delegation to the JA Solar production plant in Hefei, China, to assess the company’s manufacturing capabilities and explore the potential of advanced solar technologies in supporting Nigeria’s development priorities.
JA Solar is one of the world’s largest solar manufacturers, with a major global footprint in the production of high-performance crystalline silicon photovoltaic modules, solar cells and related solar-energy components. Its annual production capacity across its core manufacturing operations exceeds 100 GW.
The visit is particularly significant as the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to promote renewable energy as an important component of Nigeria’s drive for improved power supply, economic productivity, climate resilience and sustainable development.
For Nigeria—and particularly regions where inadequate electricity continues to constrain healthcare, education, commerce, agriculture and industrial development—solar energy presents an opportunity to turn abundant sunshine into reliable power, jobs, investment and economic opportunity.
The future of Nigeria’s energy sector must be diversified, resilient and increasingly renewable.
And building that future requires engaging the technologies, manufacturers and partnerships capable of delivering it at scale.
