PDP Congresses: VAN Fumes at Jettisoning Competence and Loyalty in Sharing Party Positions

The Victory Advocates of Nigeria (VAN), a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national support group, has called on the party's leadership to prioritise competence and loyalty in sharing executive committee positions at all levels.

In a statement made available to newsmen after the group's monthly meeting held on October 4, 2025, the group's leadership expressed worries about the crises facing the party at all levels.

VAN stated that reports gathered from different states showed that a few states were free from internal challenges.

The group called on the party's leadership to take urgent steps in reaching out to the state governors of Enugu and Rivers to embark on proper realignment and reconciliation.

VAN challenged the Èkiti State Congress Committee chairman in the just-concluded state congress to urgently provide proof of form collection and results for the office of State Youth Leader where its National President, Prince Seyi Ajibola was disenfranchised and denied of his right.

This, according to the group, had become necessary to avoid litigation by the group leadership, arguing that an injury to one is an injury to all.

"Ekiti is a state where credibility, competence and caution must be upheld to avoid unpleasant consequences in the gubernatorial election ahead" it added.

VAN drew the attention of PDP NWC to the assignment given to Chief Tunde Akindehin, and called for comprehensive review of the process, adding "Graciously, the feedbacks from different states demand that Victory Advocates of Nigeria acknowledges the efforts of NWC members led by Amb. Umar Damagum in making efforts towards fixing the challenges facing the party."

The group used the medium to appreciate the former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki; Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, H.E Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, Bayelsa State Governor H.E Douye Diri for including members of the group in party positions and state cabinets but demanding for more.

VAN reminded the party's leadership of the need to use the forthcoming convention to rewrite the many wrongs within the PDP family in order to forestall the collapse of the entire structure by the outcome.

The group also reminded the party about the promise made to youth wings, saying that 10% allocation of party positions should start from the coming national convention.

VAN expressed worries about the low level of youth inclusion in the subcommittees published for the forthcoming national convention of the party and implored the party's leaders to encourage, motivate and appreciate the party faithful, adding "this can only be achieved through inclusion in party positions and assignments."
