NOTIFICATION OF ANNUAL ASHURA PROCESSION

We write to inform the general public that the disciples of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H) will be marking the annual commemoration of the Martyrdom of Imam Husain(a.s) throughout the country along with other Muslims across the globe.

ASHURA day, (10th Muharram of each Hijri calendar) is marked around the globe to mourn the brutal killing of Imam Husain(a.s), the grandson of the Messenger of Allah Muhammad(S). This is done through rallies, lectures, processions etc practiced all over the world including Nigeria.

It is a religious activity. This year alone ,the disciples of Sheikh Zakzkay(H) have been gathering in not less than 562 cities and villages across Nigeria.

It is the month of sacrifice and showing of love to all oppressed. Imam Husain (a.s) was slain in the plains of Karbala by the army of Yazid son of Mu'awiya under the command of Yazid himself on the 10th day of the month in the year 61AH.

The commemoration of Imam Hussein’s martyrdom ,his family and followers's sacrifice is known as a historical tragedy mostly observed by Shi’a Muslims and the entire world of justice.

Every year there’s an increase in social, political and economic injustices shattering nations worldwide, but this annual remembrance and message of Imam Hussein’s fight for justice over 1,400 years ago tends to counteract these devastations by generating humanity and reform in the thoughts and acts of Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

As we all know ,everyone has the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and association, which are essential components of democracy. The right of peaceful assembly includes the right to hold meetings, sit-ins, rallies, events or protests, both physical and online.

We are calling on those in authority to ensure that the rights of the disciples of Sheikh Zakzkay (H) are fully protected from all kinds of aggression especially in Kaduna state and the Federal Capital Territory.

The National Body of the political Forum of the Islamic movement under the leadership of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky wishes to use this avenue to disassociate its self from the wrong actions taken in Zamfara and speeches by Alhaji Bashir Tsakuwa ,the state representative of the Forum .

On behalf of the Forum we hereby make a public disclaimer that Bashir Tsakuwa and some individuals involved in the commitments are no longer part of the Forum.

They have violated the objective of the Political Forum and also the principles of the Islamic movement.

Our prime objectives is to defend, protect and maintain the integrity of the Islamic movement.

Brothers and sisters of the Political Forum Zone 1 of Kaduna State organized a discussion sessions on facilitating peace and good social coexistence among people, collective protection of the rights to life, properties and dignity of the people.

Tun lokacin samuwan shi, dandalin siyasan ya fuskanci tambayoyi masu yawa ciki harda tambayoyin halascin shi dandalin dakuma manufa.

Dandalin Siyasan tare da masu masuliyya a dandalin sun fuskanci wasu irin tambayoyin da bisa hakikani , masu tambayoyin, da sun dukufa ne wurin aikama zababbun dake rike da madafun iko a wannan kasar ta Najeriya.

Muyi taka tsantsan da sanya ido wurin masu sana'ar dakon yada farfaganda domin kokarin biyan wasu bukatunsu ta hanyar dabarun juya kyawawan hadafofin Dandalin Siyasan izuwa munana.

Domin tabbatarwa ; babu wani dan takara ko wata jam'iyya izuwa yanzu da s**a shirya domin daukan alkawarin aiwatar da bukatunmu na neman ayi mana adalci . Saboda hakanan Dandalin Siyasa na Harkar Musulunci na rike da damarsa wanda hakkin dandalinne na dakatarwa da daukan wani mataki akan hakan a wanna lokacin.

The Political Forum of the Islamic movement

Since the official announcement of the Political Forum of the Islamic movement in Nigeria under the leadership of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky was duly announced, the forum has endured all manners of microscopic and macroscopic forms of scrutiny from all conceivable angles. From its inception, the Political Forum of the Islamic movement in Nigeria has been faced by numerous questions even questions on its legitimacy and purpose.


The political forum and its members have had to deal with the kinds of scrutiny that should have theoretically been forwarded to the currently sitting members of the elected offices of Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Federal Republic of Nigeria in which the Islamic movement in Nigeria and its ideology was disregarded, ignored and labeled to the point; that the state of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has ended up enacting a sectarian policy of extermination against the movement.


After the political forum meeting in Sokoto that lasted 3 days, from the 11th to 13th of November 2022; and considering the multitude of issues raised by many of those attending at the time we feel that it is important to repeat, reaffirm and clarify the mission of the political forum of the Islamic movement in Nigeria.

In December 2015 the Nigerian Army embarked on a pogrom of sectarian genocide against the Shia Muslims in Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria. As the Nigerian Army is not an extra-legal body, all responsibilities for the massacre belongs to the Government.

The political forum of the Islamic movement in Nigeria is committed to:


· Protecting Our collective human right to life, property and dignity.

· Facilitating peace and good social coexistence among all peoples.

· Ensuring equity in the distribution of the country's wealth.

· Protecting lives and property of our community.

· Maintaining diplomatic relations and efforts to facilitate justice for our community.

· Informing our community of their rights and responsibilities in a civic democratic state.

· Ensuring that we make our decision ourselves and have a say on important issues that affect us directly or indirectly as a community in this country.


Our last meeting in Sokoto was meant to be an opportunity to enlighten all to our goals and to clarify the mission of the forum to all; especially our brothers and sisters whom have all collectively had a taste of what it is to experience genocide.

It is our community in the Islamic movement, who have borne the brunt of the sectarian persecution and brutalization that has been visited upon the people by the Nigerian state. The Shia Muslim community which it is meant to have constitutionally protected.

In the Sokoto Meetings we were very clear about our objectives. It is premature and counter productive for us to declare support for any party or candidate at this moment. We should beware of those who are engaged in the business of spreading rumors in an attempt to cash in on the Political Forum’s Legitimate and Noble goals. Indeed getting to the point; no candidate or party has explicitly yet committed to deliver on our demands for justice. Thus the Political Forum of Islamic Movement reserves the right to withhold on making any such commitments at the moment.

Finally, we at the political forum are dissuading ourselves from those who go around and create baseless statements and attribute it to Our Leader in the name of having been sent by him to preach that which is against his teachings, and most especially that which is counter productive to the aims of the Political Forum of the Islamic movement.

The Coalition Of Civil Soceity Organizations Under Secure Nation-Builders Call On Nigerian To Adopt The Objectives of the Political Forum

The notion of establishment of a just system is not strange to countries far and wide, let alone Nigeria – a cosmopolitan state blessed with both human and natural resources.

We believe that unity of the people is the foundation of every nation’s development as it fosters good governance, equality, selfless service and collaboration for the common good of all the people of Nigeria.

There is the need for us to decide on a set of standard values that we will live by and nurture for many generations to come .

Having weak governing institutions where people largely and inappropriately rely on sub-optimal indices such as ethnic affiliation, religious links and family ties in the creation, allocation and distribution of resources and values, a country is bound to face disastrous challenges.

At this point , we will like to acknowledge the recent development coming from the Islamic movement in Nigeria with Shia majority adherents for creating a Political Forum. With their solid structure , such a mass movement of millions of people have the capacity to change the equation of the Nigerian political activities as truthfulness , dedication , courage are among their characters.

From what we gathered in light of that, efforts to bridge ethnic divide in Nigeria, Protecting the rights of all Nigerians, facilitating peaceful coexistence and harmony among Nigerians,
ensuring equal distribution of Nigerian resources, safeguarding lives and properties of the Nigerian Population , maintaining diplomatic ties and striving towards social justice , sensitization of the public on their rights and responsibilities are among the objectives of the Political Forum of the Islamic movement in Nigeria.

Base on our findings , the leader of the Islamic movement Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky stick to what he believes as true teachings of Islam, the Sheikh married a Yoruba lady Zeenat Ibraheem, he established an annual programme he named unity week, encourages his disciples to embark on selfless services to their immediate communities in a wide-spread recognition of the need for the unity of the Nigerian people and Africa at large.

Further more , Some of our links with some strong societies such as Red Cross Society informed us that the Shia Muslims under the leadership of Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky are among the highest donors of blood in the country.

Also , some sources from the Christian Association of Nigeria informed us on the level of sacrifices Sheikh Zakzaky made to ensure the safety of Nigerians irrespective of religious beliefs during crises.

It is on record that the Shia Muslim leader has narrated a number of times that when he was in Kirikiri prison with some president Shagari’s ministers under the infamous decree two of the unpopular regime of Buhari/Idiagbon that there had been discussions on the breakup of Nigeria.

The Sheikh refused to comment initially, but when they insisted on his opinion, he said left to him, Nigeria should co-opt other neighboring countries and form a larger united country, where we can utilize our rich and different cultures and diversities.

According to some of his speeches, the renown Sheikh reiterates that unity is essential in maintaining a harmonious and functional society.

On religious aspects, he believes that there are differences, and he has maintained that it is not a problem so long as we respect one another’s views and opinions that Islam does not force anyone to accept and practice it.
Consequently, in his opinion, unity of the people and subsequently societal stability contributes to nation-building.

One aspect of nation-building revolves around economic developments which, in extremely simplified terms, may lead to elevated standards of living; and if channeled efficiently by those in authority, it will decrease poverty rate and income disparity thereby benefiting the populace as a whole.

Despite the killings, the persecutions and the imprisonments, the Shia Muslims, in accordance with their leader’s principles, have refused to take up arms, unlike other groups that threaten the unity and peace of the country.

Daily, we receive news updates highlighting vicious threats by many such groups all over the country airing their grievances as well as seeking for redress with their threats and actions, but are they faring any worse than the Shi’a Muslims?

We’re talking about a group whose leader has been in and out of prisons at various times over the past decades all due to his stance on what he consider as injustice, corruption and oppression against the people.

Over the years, his followers have been killed and tortured on various occasions, the worst being the 2015 massacre that claimed the lives of hundreds of them, leaving thousands orphaned and hundreds having their beloved offsprings and spouses snatched away from them.

Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, leader of the Shia Muslims, has been held captive along with his wife since then, while suffering from various internal and external maladies.

One of the good points explained by the political forum to Nigerians is that the country will only move forward as a country forged in unity, by optimising every single public resource of the country and making the health, economy, safety and the prosperity of its people an urgent concern. There are no shortcuts; fixing Nigeria requires a consistent devotion not just four-year election.

They also explained that proper governance requires thought from committed people who understand the benefits of aligning every level of an organized society to produce desired results.

In conclusion , we are calling on the Political Forum of the Islamic movement not to support any particular person or party with a bad human right record , bad economic record and bad security record.

As part of the North West inaugurations, the Forum inaugurated the members that will shoulder the responsibilities of coordinating the activities of the Forum in Zamfara , Sokoto and Kebbi axis.

The meetings were held in Sokoto State. Participants received lectures on the structure, objectives and oprational guidelines of the Forum. In attendance were the Convener the National coordinator and other stake holders of the Forum.

It has come to our attention that some people are using the name of the Political Forum of the Islamic movement to hold unauthorised meetings in some parts of the country. Sadly, they even go to the extent of requesting or accepting money from individuals and/or groups.

We hereby call on the general public and politicians to reject any kind of invitation from such individuals. This is a public notice to all. Endeavour to be vigilant in order not to fall into the trap of these impostors

The Political Forum has its representatives across the country; they are known and their contacts are available in the official page and twitter handle of the forum. The email of the forum is also available on the authorised media pages.

Activities of the Forum are conducted in accordance with the Operational Guidelines of the Forum under the guardianship of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H).

It may become inevitable for the Forum to take legal action against any individual or group that continues to impersonate the Forum.

The Forum inaugurated hundreds of its members that will take the responsibilities of coordinating the activities of the Forum in the North East region of the country.

The meetings were held in Gombe and Bauchi States. Representatives from Yobe, Borno, Adamawa and Taraba states were among those that received a profound lectures on the structure, objectives and oprational guidelines of the Forum. In attendance were the Convener the National coordinator and other stake holders of the Forum.

Political Forum of the Islamic movement is a Forum under the leadership of his Eminence Sheikh Zakzaky(H)

Word has been circulating regarding some misconceptions about the recently established Political Forum of the Islamic movement in Nigeria. This has necessitated this press release in order to clear the air, as we're sure that many of the grumbles are due to misinformation
A few weeks back, after lengthy discussions with the leader Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H), the Political Forum was formed, with the view to further the following objectives:

• Protecting the rights of the adherents of the movement and the interests of the Islamic movement
• Facilitating peaceful coexistence and harmony among Nigerians
• Ensuring equal distribution of Nigerian resources
• Safeguarding lives and properties of the people
• Maintaining diplomatic ties and striving towards social justice
• Sensitization of the public on their rights and responsibilities, etc.

In addition to the afore-mentioned objectives, the Political Forum will help serve as a wedge against the activities of some individuals who often go around perpetrating some inappropriate acts in the name of the Islamic movement. Hence, the forum was made to consist of notable persons in the Islamic movement, under the directives of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H).

Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky has been known to be an epitome of kindness and humanity, as well as a noble proponent of justice and equity. On many occasions, he has been seen to extend a helping hand to those in need of financial aid and even protection, especially during ethno-centric clashes and even post-election crises. Therefore, it shouldn't be a surprise that he has vetted and approved the initiative behind the Political Forum of the Islamic movement.

In as much as the names and even the contact numbers of some people in the Forum were compiled and publicized, with due respect, any person that belongs to the Political Forum that engaged himself in any act that is against the principle and policies of the movement , and also the objectives of the Forum will be disowned. Therefore, we do not recognize any person behind any statements that go against the fundamental principles of the Islamic movement.

The Political Forum has, from inception, been under the directives of the leader of the Islamic movement, as he was the one that shed light on the principles and policies of the Islamic movement, as well as the status of political activities in the movement. According to him, these activities could be obligatory, recommended or forbidden, depending on the circumstances, and none of the scenarios goes against the fundamental principles of the Islamic movement!

After all, it is in line with the perspective of our noble Prophet, that Islam should not just be regarded as a set of prescriptions or as a kind of philosophical system, but an all-encompassing system with sound socio-political angles.

The activities of the Political Forum revolve round diplomatically facilitating peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, while preventing unwarranted bloodshed and persecution by the Nigerian authorities. It is devastating that some people might misunderstand the forum at the initial stages. To prevent that, we have undertaken visits to sensitize people on the activities of the forum.

But alas! Some elements would still spread propaganda against it, or spread rumours without confirmation. It is to that effect that we request that any inquiries about the Political Forum should be directed towards its designated CWC coordinators , whose names and contacts information are not hidden.
