NAQS, NOPPMAN STRENGTHEN COLLABORATION ON ONION EXPORT FACILITATION AND PHYTOSANITARY CERTIFICATION
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), Dr. Vincent Isegbe, hosted the President of the National Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NOPPMAN), Alh. Aliyu Isa Maitasamu, alongside other delegates of the association, at the NAQS Headquarters to deliberate on issues surrounding onion export, phytosanitary certification processes, and other collaborative measures aimed at facilitating seamless agricultural trade.
During the engagement, discussions centered on strengthening export compliance, improving access to phytosanitary certification for onion exports, and enhancing partnerships to boost Nigeria’s agricultural export competitiveness in international markets.
The Comptroller General welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed NAQS’ commitment to working closely with stakeholders across the agricultural value chain. He assured the association of continued collaboration and support in addressing challenges affecting onion exports while promoting trade facilitation in line with national and international phytosanitary standards.

CG NAQS HOST ALGERIAN AMBASSADOR TO NIGERIA
The Comptroller General NAQS, Dr. Vincent Isegbe, received His Excellency, Mr. Hocine Mezoued, the Algerian Ambassador to Nigeria, on a courtesy visit at the Service Headquarters in Abuja.
The visit provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss areas of mutual interest, particularly in strengthening bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and Algeria in agricultural trade, plant and animal quarantine, food safety, and capacity development.
Speaking during the meeting, the Comptroller-General reaffirmed NAQS’ commitment to fostering strategic international partnerships aimed at enhancing safe agricultural trade, improving phytosanitary standards, and promoting regional economic growth.
The Algerian Ambassador commended the efforts of NAQS in safeguarding Nigeria’s agricultural economy and expressed optimism towards deeper collaboration between both countries in advancing agricultural and quarantine-related initiatives.
The meeting further highlighted the importance of international cooperation in addressing emerging agricultural challenges and promoting sustainable trade across Africa.

NAQS STRENGTHENS SERVICE DELIVERY CULTURE THROUGH SERVICOM INAUGURATION AND STAFF CAPACITY BUILDING
The Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) has inaugurated its SERVICOM Committee and organized a capacity-building lecture for officers as part of efforts aimed at enhancing service delivery, institutional efficiency, and professional excellence across the Service.
Speaking during the event, the Comptroller-General of NAQS, Dr. Vincent Isegbe, stated that the Service has continued to distinguish itself in public service delivery through innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement. According to him, NAQS is consistently “putting its best foot forward” in service delivery, which has earned the Agency top positions in the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) rankings over the years.
The CG further emphasized that the Agency remains committed to improving daily through reforms, staff development, stakeholder engagement, and the deployment of efficient systems that promote transparency and ease of doing business.
The keynote address was delivered by the Acting Director of SERVICOM, Mrs. Helen Lawal, alongside the Director of Reforms, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS), who both emphasized the importance of professionalism, accountability, responsiveness, and citizen-centered service delivery in achieving excellence within the public sector.
Highlight of the event was the recognition of the NAQS SERVICOM/PEBEC Focal Officer, ACG O.V Fasugbe, who was recognized as one of the most performing focal officer under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in acknowledgment of her dedication, coordination, and outstanding contributions towards institutional reforms and service excellence.
The lecture encouraged officers to uphold professionalism, integrity, and commitment in the discharge of their duties as critical pillars for strengthening public confidence and achieving organizational goals.

NAQS MARKS 2026 IDPH WITH STRATEGIC STAKEHOLDERS SEMINAR
The Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) today hosted a high-level seminar in commemoration of the 2026 International Day of Plant Health (IDPH), bringing together government officials, development partners, stakeholders in the agricultural sector, and international organizations to promote awareness on the importance of plant health to food security, safe trade, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the NAQS Governing Board, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, emphasized the critical role plant health plays in national development and urged stakeholders to strengthen collaboration towards safeguarding Nigeria’s agricultural resources from pests and diseases.
In his remarks, the Comptroller General of NAQS, Dr. Vincent Isegbe, highlighted the Service’s continued efforts in protecting the country’s agricultural economy through effective quarantine measures, surveillance, inspections, and international partnerships. He noted that healthy plants remain fundamental to achieving food sufficiency, export competitiveness, and sustainable livelihoods.
The FAO Country Representative commended Nigeria’s commitment to advancing plant health initiatives and reaffirmed the organization’s support towards strengthening phytosanitary systems, capacity development, and regional cooperation in line with global best practices.
Other stakeholders INCLUDING WAVE Nigeria, FACAN, NINAS, NASC, AHFEN, and NBMA at the seminar called for increased public awareness, stronger inter-agency collaboration, adoption of modern technologies, and greater investment in plant protection systems to address emerging plant health threats and ensure safer agricultural trade.
The seminar formed the climax of activities lined up by NAQS to commemorate the 2026 International Day of Plant Health.
